Shely has done this. I had her on a tie out at the park and she saw a father/daughter and ran so hard it broke her collar. She scared the little girl and the dad started kicking at her!! He couldn't speak English very well but I begged him to stop kicking at her. She will usually come back for a treat, a stick or her ball. Ahhhh so frusterating when they get away. She will run right by me just out of reach like "hahahah you're too slow sucker!"

My pup never bothered hers much and I didn't even use a spray deterent. (Of course she got used to wearing coats in the winter so maybe that helped.)

Well, bless your heart. But I am afraid this type of "rough" treatment can make this poor dog a problem, down the road. Why do they even have this dog? Status sic?

@etzbseder: I really like it, but on the membership page, the link for the membership application has a typo and needs a correction with the size difference when highlighted and not. You can send a note to the Web designer ….. I have been told it is 95% done and everyone that is on the site, if you find stuff that needs to be fixed, email her. carmella@hchltd.com

Thanks! I checked out the site, and it looks cool, and very safe! It is a bit far, though, almost to Kenosha, but we do go down to Chicago to visit relatives frequently, and usually bring Tosca, so maybe we will stop sometime.

I am so glad I read this. We are having eating problems too but after reading your replies I know this issue is probably stress and hopefully will stop. Our two basenji's (3&4) have always had a pretty structured eating schedule. The boys the 4 yr old and our old elkhound have always ate together since the basenji came to us at 6 mo. The girl eats next. It has worked great for years. Our elkie went to doggy heaven this week, he was 14 and was greatly afflicted with renal and liver failure. The b's don't seem to look for him or miss him till its supper time. Our boy doesn't seem to be able to eat alone without his buddy even though we are with him. I know that a restructure of eating habits is needed and the b's will eat together now and hopefully that should resolve our issues of the moment. And as I have learned owning B's there can be alot of issues of the moment with them

My favorite is when we come home from a long, hot walk and Tosca sits by me on the couch and falls asleep, with what looks like a content smile on her face! She looks so peaceful, like she just is thinking life is perfect! I have tried to get a pic of this, but only could on my phone, and it was way too dark to post. Otherwise when I move to get my camera or even turn it on of course she wakes up! Sometime I will get one though, its a wonderful thing to see, she is actually doing it right now!

Zpuppy likes to play fetch. Even outside. (mostly outside really) Of course, I've worked very hard to make that a reinforcing game.

Kiro Gurl, That's a great pic. I have a bay window on which my 2 are constantly watching the goings on in the neighborhood. Someone in the house will say, "where's the dogs?" and the inevitable reply is "they're on Neighborhood Watch duty." Needless to say we are alerted to every unwanted intruder…..marauding cats, wilily squirrels, and those despicably lawless off leash dogs (with the occasional 'bad to the bone' large wild bird thrown in for good measure;) ) sigh, I feel sooooo safe. I thank Darwin every day that they don't have opposable thumbs 'cuz they'd be unlocking and opening the door for anyone they deemed as a suitable playmate, tummy scratcher, or cuddler:D ! Now that you have a 'window watcher' too, I suggest you invest in windex. There's nothing better to get those dog snot streaks off the windows!! (BTW...welcome to the forums toddsgirl)

I had a small suggestion for you if Dallas is still trying to lick his incision site. My vet got Beegin a "procollar" to wear when he was neutered because he was licking. It is a lot nicer than the elizabethan collar things that make your dog look like an upside down lampshade. The procollar is inflatable and looks like a little life jacket. It was like 25 from my vet. Beegin wore that for about 4 days after his surgery and then when I took it off, he seemed to have forgotten about the licking business or it didn't bother him anymore. But he wasn't particularly uncomfortable wearing the procollar because it was like a permanent pillow he could rest his head on anywhere!

Oh definitely - your pup must have been the model for the bambi! I generally just get the generic "what kind of dog will that be when it grows up"! Minnesota is a hunting state and most people have the big hunting dogs (- or the little mop dogs).

@JazzysMom: You KNOW William has to be wondering why we don't just throw the darned dogs into the stew pot!! bwahahahaha Because basenjis are too sleek and lean, not enough fat on the little rascals to make good stew, of course!:D

Too funny – EL D doesn't do toilet paper but he's murder on napkins and paper towels - they're stored in a lower cabinet - yeah yeah I know - and once in awhile the door is open "too long". The world would be a boring place if it weren't for basenjis !
