Olimar and "friends"

    our roommates have two dogs. meli the jack russell and kahu the pitbull. olimar and meli seem to hit off quite well. they're pretty good friends… although i think meli is trying to teach olimar, to be more like her. our roommates don't treat her that well, which i believe makes her be the energetic terror, she is. olimar and kahu... well they play sometimes but recenlty kahu as been a bully to oli. today they were playing and kahu got a mega clamp lockdown bite on our little guy. olimar was crying, and i had to come rescue him. the pitbulls owner didn't even come and get his dog. what a trip! he didn't even say sorry! not to mention they like to abuse their dogs by hitting them, talk to them with a loud tone, and locking them in their cages all day. i feel really bad for them. i just hope olimar doesn't think that all dogs are like this.

    Sad, any way you can get this dog away from that home and into on how will care for it properly?

    michelle and i take him everywhere we go. we don't leave him with the other two and their owners. we try to take him to the beach, parks, friends places. we don't want to be around their owners either, so it works out. it just sucks that he has to be around it. :C

    Well, bless your heart.
    But I am afraid this type of "rough" treatment can make this poor dog a problem, down the road.
    Why do they even have this dog?

    @Knipper: Cricket canters true on left and right lead. Her flying lead changes are stunning! I wish I could get those out of Ryley! Perry does nice flying changes too, and occasionally does a simple change through trot. He is certainly smoother and more consistent than most of my horses, who will throw in a disunited stride or two on occasion! :)

    our garden is loaded with fieldmouses at the moment…. my B's do not care very much but my Ibizan hounds snack them all the time, sometimes they bring one inside for me to have, as a present, and they look quite offended when they notice I throw their delicious present in the garbage can ....

    How true. I'm surprised no one has started Basenji Anonymous, LOL It's like pringles can't have one. Although I have just one now. I have owned Basenjsi for 30 years. I tell my dog loving co-workers about Kay-Dee's antics and they love hearing about her. She goes a lot of places with me and she has her own fan club.

    Hmmm, I wonder if we got Joey and Jazzy together, if their pups would be laid back? Joey is pretty calm compared to most bs that I have heard of or seen.

    I used to say my dog was aggressive until I read this thread… Now I say it is more of a defensive mechanism for Buddi. Buddi doesn't like anyone or anything to approach him. He wants to smell and get to know them or it first. If someone new comes into the house I tell them not to acknowledge Buddi at first and then once he has finished getting to know them he will walk away. After that he is fine. But if someone walks in and puts their hand towards him he instantly turns into a very loud and shows aggressive behavior like he is going to attack. The theory has worked very well to date. With dogs it is a little different. He also doesnt like small dogs. The ones close to his size or larger we have never had a problem. Should I handle the situations in a different manner? Also he doesnt go to a doggie spa or day care so we make sure to go to the park and keep him socialized with dogs there and ones that he knows. We also have friends with young kids and he loves them. Has never growled or snipped at them. He LOVES to play!!!!
