I would not recommend using hands for any type of physical disapline. Water bottles and positive rewards work better. It does sound like she is needing more exercise. A tired b is a good b. That would be my suggestions..walk her until she is too tired to do much more than nap.

Cory and Jayden have foam inside a pillowcase on the bottom of their crates. On top of that are dog crate beds that are wrapped in old babycrib sheets. They each have two little baby receiving blankets in the beds so they have something to "rough up" for when they make their beds comfortable at night. Sometimes Jayden gets too enthusiastic and gets all the cushions etc all bunched up in a big mound in his crate and he can't lay down. I have to remove him and completely remake the bed before he can go back in to sleep. Sometimes before he goes in his crate to sleep, he'll stand up and remove Cory's baby blankets from her crate (on top of his)….......just to irritate her at bedtime. And it does irritate her! Pat

That's actually what I thought about when I saw it and I thought it would be good practice for coursing, or at least if nothing else it should help with conditioning.

@tanza: Here is a story you all will appreciate… I was showing Fatia and looking for Majors to get her finished. I was at a show down So. Ca and there was this really nice park close to the motel where we were staying.. so in the afternoon we would go for a nice long walk... I had Kristii with me for company for Fatia.. and both were on Flexi's.. well there were millions of squirrels in that park... and the girl caught sight of one pretty darn close to them... and both took off after the squirrel.. dead ahead was a huge Oak Tree.... YOU guessed it... one went on one side of the tree and one to the other side.... Guess who went "smack" into the tree??? LOL…too funny! :D

I have two kids. A ten yr old and a six yr old. Kaycee truly believes she's a kid as well. Whatever they get up to, she's right in the thick of things. God help me when we get the other baby B.

Yes, get her and your new boy into obedience and work to earn with treats, and getting up on the couch by you… it will help. Hugs

Poor boy. I've never had to deal with that…it sounds like you've done just about everything you can. I wonder if taping your voices or making video of yourselves doing everyday things and playing it while you're gone would ease his anxiety a little? It's a just a thought.....

After watching a show on cheetahs, I think that Basenjis are more like them than dogs, or wolves. They look to have the same light framed body structure, and like to stalk, and paw at things. Medjai also waits and tries to beat other dogs in a race at the dog park.

Last week I tried this frozen treat idea with my 4 and they loved it. Tools: Ziploc Bag. Water. Goodies. (For medium to large dogs) Take a ziplock bag, toss in a few goodies such as 2 baby carrots, small pieces of some pupperoni, a couple table spoons of wet dog food, a few kibbles of dry dog food or other treats that they like. (Just a dab will do ya) Then add in some water. You can also add a little bit of Tang or Crystal Light sometimes. To keep variety some days fill it with a lot of water (make a big block) some days just add a cup or two. When you fill 1/2 a bag or less you can place it different ways in the freezer so it makes different shapes once it freezes. This should be ice they have to get through to get the treats, not just a bag of frozen treats. You can also toss in a Nylabone or other toys that can handle being frozen. You can also use a cheap plastic food dish and place a toy or treats in there and freeze. Takes longer for them to get the goodies out since the bowl blocks access to all the sides. For smaller dogs just add less treats and water. For small animals use an ice cube tray and toss in a treat or two per cube. Don't forget just tossing some ice in the water bowl is also entertaining! This can get messy so please be aware of the fact that ice melts if you have carpets. This is better for floors you can clean easily or outdoors.

I Yodel at Indi and he yodels back. Usually its right before or during a game of tag. My suggestion would be to get him all worked up playing and then do it.

I've had two different people mistake Piper for a boston terrier. Both were walking bostons and came running over to play with my boston puppy then didn't want to believe me when I told them she was a basenji. But I can't blame them because Piper thought their dogs were basenjis. She got so excited when she saw them coming just like she does whenever she meets another basenji. Unfortunately she found out that while they were nice dogs they just were not as fun as basenjis.:)

Sahara loves to sleep where we are, and sometimes sleeps on the couch b/c that is where I end up at times. I have been having some back problems, and I will fall asleep on the couch and will find myself there in the morning even though DH comes in and wakes me up to say, "You need to get up and move to the bed now", which I never quite make it, anyways, Sahara will sleep in between my legs, but moves to bed with Daddy when I get up to go to work. Hubby works nights so he sleeps pretty late and Sahara will scratch his hand to get him to put the sheet or blanket up so she can go in under the covers. She is spoiled so bad I am surprised you can't smell her, haha:eek:  !!!

@Andrew: Maui, I do indeed mean the mud/latest fashion accessory at Brook Run :p Lol. Niiiiice. I'm sorry you missed my epic trip 'n fall and then my having to walk around with half of me covered in mud. It was….something else. I'm really leery of that part of the park now. Damn root sticking out of the ground.
