I got this toy and all I can say is wow! Piper absolutely loves it. She’s never really gotten excited about toys outside and will only play for a minute or so with balls or flying disks, but with this she will chase it as long as I will throw it. It will easily roll the length of my backyard which is around 200 feet and takes lots of crazy hops that drive her wild. She of course doesn’t bring it back because what self-respecting basenji would retrieve, but it gives her a great opportunity to really stretch her legs and anything that tires her out makes me really happy.:)

The video on the site doesn’t seem to work but here is the link to the youtube video

  • Just like the bunny at the lure trial!!!! (if it was real it would not come back either…ggg)

  • That's actually what I thought about when I saw it and I thought it would be good practice for coursing, or at least if nothing else it should help with conditioning.

And I think that clicker training is the BEST way to train a Basenji. -Joanne

I would suggest waiting until you get the little guy. Indi didn't have a name for abut 2 days. We had all these names in mind and none of them fit. Thats my two cents anyway (oh ya and because we did that I have a cool costume for him on haloween but I don't think I am going to get any cooperation on his end)

The B I am fostering came with a de-stuffed…um...thing (I really couldn't tell you what it once was). When she doesn't get her way she will BAROOOOOO at us as loud as she can and then grab the stuffy and shake, shake, shake it and throw it in our general direction. If she could say "so there', I know she would.

@Gooby: When I walk Goober in the park I have to contantly correct him when he tries to eat goose poop. I trained him with a Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo doll. IMO, now would be a good time for Gooby and you to attend a Puppy Class. They will teach you commands like "leave it" and many more obedience commands followed up with a very high value treat. One much too yummy than that old goose poop! :)

Thanks for your replies. I've started giving Sonia Glucosamine w/ MSM every day and we'll see how she does. I'll give you an update in about a month and let you know if it's helped or not.

The only thing I would be concerned about with a Dachshund would be the possiblity of it having some back damage with the rough play of a basenji…or even trying to do the same acrobatics that Bs do. I have known some folks who had a lot of problems with disk and spine problems with Doxies...but I don't know if that is typical. Something to think about though...
