My basenji boy can't handle peanut butter…but Lou husband gets that nasty spray cheese in a can not my fav...and I fill the dogs bones with it and some dry biskets... The dogs love it...

@BasenjiByTheBay: There's a shirt!?!? Hilarious! Oh they have this on like everything you can think of! They have it on mugs, tote bags, shirts, baby onsies! Everything. Haha. I just went with a shirt :)

Once you do get a list of vet hospitals go and visit them and ask questions. In my experience the good ones will let you see their examining rooms, boarding area, etc., and are quite willing to answer questions (including prices).

I would suggest waiting until you get the little guy. Indi didn't have a name for abut 2 days. We had all these names in mind and none of them fit. Thats my two cents anyway (oh ya and because we did that I have a cool costume for him on haloween but I don't think I am going to get any cooperation on his end)

I know that PetsMart sells several brands of products which claim to calm dogs down - some type of natural anti-anxiety pills. I don't know anything about them, so be sure to research it for effectiveness and safety before trying.

The bug spray for dogs I got at petsmart was …. is Mosquito Halt. It was on sale but the bugs are so bad here I deceded to get some bug soray for Mica. BaMicas mom

Indi has been teething and he actually likes to CARRY his teeth around. He will make the teething face (kind of like hes tasted something bitter and is smacking his lips with his toung sticking out) finally get it out and spend the rest of his time picking it up, carrying it about 5 ft and spitting it out. Then if no one notices he will continue doing this untill we take it away. Its wierd, really wierd but when he is holding it you see his best show dog prance while he is walking around.

I look at each forum, and read the new posts. I also use the search mode if I am looking for a specific topic, which I find helpful . Anne in Tampa

problem with using a hot wire is that we have already tried that at the base of the pen when she was digging out and that never stopped her…we have also seen her hit the hot wire used in the cow pen at the trailer and that didn't phase her. Each time she has hit the wires nd kept going our first reaction us to check the wires and every time they have indeed been on and "HOT." We are working to secure the base of the pen as well as creating a cover to keep rain and provide shade while allowing a breeze and ventilation for the pen. In the meantime she is either in a borrowed kennel in the yerd directly beside the house that i can see from my room, in the house with me, or in the crate.

I would recommend when you have the time, take some steel wool and strip off all the rust and then spray paint it to prevent more rust from forming.

Well…I free-feed, but because of my work schedule, and therefore, Jack's crating schedule, he gets fed on a regular schedule. I fee him in the morning, around 7:30am, and he usually gobbles that down, then I feed him when I get home, and leave food out for him all evening. Because I do have a normal schedule with him, I can see when he is eating, and when he isn't. Lately, he has taken to eating his food while we are eating dinner (which is great!) he brings a few bites to the dining room, drops them on the floor, and lets out a huge sigh and eats them. I know what he is saying "Boy, I sure wish I had what you're having...."

Wow how lucky you are - or should I say how lucky Lycia is :) And Lycia and Virgule look like they are nearly twins. Beautiful dogs (but then I never met a basenji that wasn't a beautiful dog :)).

Thanks! I'll have to look at the newspaper. I'm sure my boyfriend was imagining a nice weekend without the dog… but I'd feel guilty leaving him behind with my room mate's if it is a super dog-friendly place.

well he's fine with everyone BUT the vet himself. its not like hes angry when we go to the actual office. then again he just doesnt like to be touched and seems a bit bipolar to me. ( he really is a basket case. hes attacked my hands, severely, drawing blood and causing brusing, twice last week without being provoked at all )

Everytime I walk outside I am very wary now. I checked into trap and relocation for the bear, but the PA Game Commision won't do anything unless the bear is doing actual physical damage to your property (ie: house siding being torn off etc.). Apparently nearly scaring the pants off a person doesn't count for much! lol! I also ordered the bear pepper spray - better safe than sorry! Oh and Stormie? He still thinks the bear is going to come back so he can have a go at him! lol! He's such a little nutter - but I know he'd do his best to protect his Momma!

Although Serenjane does not beg from the table, the kitchen counter and dishwasher is her food alter. She will stay in the kitchen as long as anyone is there preparing food or washing dishes. She can even hear the frig door open from across the house. Of course she always manages to find a tidbit here or there. Don't even try and eat in the family room in front of the TV, she is there on top of you. Where there is no table you are fair game. I guess we've really spoiled her

@EskiLovr: Don't forget that the most favorite game to play for most Basenji's is, guess what? Chase games! They love to chase other dogs, and BE chased too. That's the favorite activity for our boy at the dog park. If he can find another dog that understands how to play the 'chase game' he's in heaven! And heaven help you if want to get ahold of him around the house. If I step after him, he immediately darts away and looks back as if to say "come-n-get me" tail wagging the whole time! That sounds just like my boy! He will grab something he knows he isn't supposed to have [i.e. a sock] & make sure that I see him then just start running through the house. If I don't chase him, he will drop it after he notices I am not chasing him. Haha. It cracks me up!

So glad to hear that all is well. Congratulations on having Jack back!
