@k9collars: I'm not sure you'll be able to stop this problem with the harnesses. Often times, hair loss is from the hairs getting into the weave of the webbing and then it being plucked out. For that problem, you'll need a fabric against their skin that would be of a tight enough weave that the hairs can't get into the weave. Second problem is the friction. The dog is continually in motion rubbing, while the harness is stationary. Back and forth, back and forth. Nylon webbing may not be abrasive when touched, but over time it will have the effect you've noticed. Perhaps a softer lining might work (satin, polar fleece), but over a long distance, it too may have the same result. Time to reach outside the Basenji family to find rollerbladers that take their dogs with them. They must've come across this problem. Nick Lexington, KY Thats what is great about Ruff Wear they really go above and beyond to prevent the friction wear and the hair being pulled out too

Thanks for the tip about the patio-doggie door - I'll have to look for one of those.

Nice cold chocolate ice cream, you have the best excuse ever to indulge. Hope you feel better soon. We have always found boys to be sweeter, the girls are more pragmatic and practical (was that subtle enough?). Anne in Tampa

In dogs, there are two types of lupus. One is discoid, which usually affects the skin only and the other is systemic lupus erythematosus, which is more serious. You might want to investigate both. Both are treatable. Hope this helps. My best wishes for a speedy recovery for Diego!

Lol…sorry to laugh but I was walking Indy the other day and for some strange reason there was a pair of socks in the middle of the side walk. Needless to say he saw it before I did. He raced up to it grabbed them and was starting his best show dog prance by the time I saw him.

@youngandtired: Gosh, I wish Sahara would react that way, she eats to stay alive, never been a great eater. Some are just like that….

Just to bump away the troll/spammer:mad: Don't forget the Save-A-Vet organization when shopping on line for X-mas presents to fellow dog lovers. I just received my order and I can say I'm very pleased. Top quality. Love the tag line related to the dogs…."Land of the Free, Because of the Brave" http://www.save-a-vet.org/ (OP wizard) That picture is an OMG!!! Thanks wizard. How the hell do they train for something like that??:o

Cute picture! Aren't gerbils just small, caged squirrels to our B's?;) Cute collar, too. Is that a 2" martingale? I've been looking at all the links posted lately (re: daughter's/dogs X-mas surprise) but can't picture in my mind how the hound collars will look on my dogs. (They always show the large hounds as 'models'…..don't they know our Basenjis are much prettier on the runway??:D )

I have to agree with Andrea, it scared the crap out of us too. Mick is not a vocal boy but when he does Baroo I wish he would do it again. It's so sweet.

My 2 have to clean any wound they find. Mosquito bites to scratches are fair game. Katie goes overboard and will chew off any scab she finds and can get to….eeewwwwwwwwwww.

thats pretty funny. tayda and lenny get scared at little things also… particularly when they are sniffing around the yard and accidently sniff a bug or something, they'll jump a foot in the air and squeal. its funny particularly for lenny who likes to act like he's so mean toward other dogs - but then i'll find him in the house play bowing toward an ant on the floor....

Actually, I think all the Breed All About its are 30 minute shows, so probably 22-24 minutes of content. We have done a search on any new DVR we have gotten and always keep it on there. One of our dogs goes crazy any time we put it on, it is hilarious.

@wizard: I tried the vegetable oil, peanut butter, and butter but EL D managed to wiggle too much and lick everything off before I could work it into the pine pitch. However, since I was out of rubbing alcohol, I used witch hazel instead and that really did the trick - and it must not have any odor 'cuz EL D didn't even pay attention to it. Good call, I use Witch Hazel on the kids when they scratch eachother up while playing. Both Zaire and Charlie don't seem to mind it. I have never had to try it on the roommates min-pin as Charlie and Zaire don't roughhouse with him as hard as they do with eachother. :)

Andrew, we added our second B a couple of months ago - we're in a 500 sq foot loft. They're always on top of each other so 2 basenjis don't take up much more space than one…:p
