Kills me to see any dog caged. Heartbreaking. All I can do is love Pearl even more.

I haven't slept past 5:30 am more than a handful of times in the last year! Our older dog (not a B) hears the neighbor's truck, when he leaves for work, and decides that is when she should go out! Fortunately for me, most of the time (notice I say MOST) both dogs go back to sleep after a quick trip to the yard.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a sighhound :D :D

@Maya: When i was first in touch with Maya's breeder i asked lots of questions about health testing. I knew the temperment of Maya's mum (which is fantastic!!) as i had met her several times, so i asked all about Dad. Having witnessed some horrific temperments around the ring over here, health and temperment were a priority for me… I also would have been concerned if the breeder hadn't asked LOTS of questions of me. She wanted to know if i'd researched the breed, if i knew they weren't necessarily easy to live with (and explained!) and just lots of questions about me to make sure she knew if i would be a responsible basenji owner. I think with such a unique breed you need a responsible breeder who is looking for a permenant home who has done their research :) This was totally my experience as well. I was very aware that it wasn't just us interviewing a breeder, but the breeder getting to know us. I was really grateful to see that our amazing breeder took the time to make sure that we knew what we were getting into. It would make me exceptionally leery if a breeder handed over a Basenji, no questions asked.

God forbid a leaf blow nearby when Ruby is trying to poop, because that is pretty much the end of any output from her. She is too much…a very short attention span. :D:D

Thanks Humanoid. I L'dMAO. Great idea with the home made wood bed. I still can't praise the Duluth Trading Company beds enough. Katie proof (a bed digger), and Tyler proof (exposed stuffing of any kind is fair game). 6 years and the bed is still in use. Washable outside and re-stuffable inside pillow (inside only replaced once due to a basenji/skunk incident) After 5 or 6 dog beds, this one is a keeper for me.

I just bought Bella some Merricks Grammy's Pot Pie (dry). It sounds so good I'm tempted to give it a try, LOL!!! I haven't given it to her yet, I'm trying to time it out so I can introduce it slowly… I had to get it at a feed & seed supply store. It IS sad that people are uneducated about the differences of dog foods… but what is worse is that some of these companies don't care how bad the food is for our pets. Another example of how money is more important in their pocket... BTW, for treats we like Old Mother Hubbard!!!:D

Macadamia nuts are toxic, too… (I sure am glad that peanuts are not toxic or Bella would go into "spaz" mode without her peanut butter).

My Garrett loves the lazer pointer but only for a few minutes. Then the game is old and its on to new things. I really do get the feeling he understands that its an object in my hand almost as if he will play with it to amuse me with how cute he looks running around.

Man they are SO sharp right!!! Aiden (my 17month old son) is teething Molars BAD right now and we just saw yesterday that he is gnawing on his wooden crib and leaving Marks BAD…Maverick (our almost 4 month old Basenji) is teething a little because he chews on his kong and chewie pretty good these days...omg, TWO Toddlers TEETHING!! Wahoo...not...lol. Too bad there isnt Doggie Origel!!!

I think you need to go back to house training 101…. just like if they were pups... and it is an adjustment.... My question is however... what was he like in the foster home? How did they do with house training... or more like what did they do about house training...?

The details about my dogs and their work is really nice but Pat Fragassi's comment above was uneducated and slanderous. I have stayed off the public basenji forums in the past due to spurious comments such as Pat's here. Such provoking threads, though great for a Peyton Place type environment, are actually cruel and mean spirited. For those that want to read between Pat's lines, please understand that she does not associate with Judy or I in any social circles. She is not a confidant and obviously not a friend. She knows nothing of what she writes and is simply trying to get a reaction. Jeff Schettler
