It's A Small World After All

Basenji Talk
  • This weekend I joined Facebook at the urging a friend who said it makes staying in touch much easier. Pretty quickly I started getting friend requests from people I haven't known since high school.

How is this basenji related you ask? Well, one of my high school friends posted a pic of a chewed spatula that her dog got a hold of. I commented that it was pretty low on the dog destruction scale. She said, "Yeah, I guess I should have expected as much from a Basenji" So I go look at her photo album for a pic of her dog and it is a red and white basenji boy!

Just thought it was kind of funny to reconnect with a high school friend and find out that we both have the same breed of dog.

  • That is too cool, it is a small world… after all!!!:D

  • That's funny Lisa! I got a puppy inquiry a couple years ago that ended up being someone I went to school with, and we were in scouts together too. lol Not sure if she ever ended up getting a Basenji for sure though. I only had boys and she wanted a girl.

  • Facebook is addicting, but I agree it is a small world!

  • Did you tell your friend about the basenji forum?

  • No but I will.

  • Funny….it IS a small world. I found a new friend, totally unrelated to Basenjis (something else we have in common) through a Basenji friend of facebook...that is one of the THE coolest things about Facebook, IMO. I also found out that my very first grade school crush ended up going to the same University as my nephew...on the opposite coast! Wierd!

But, yeah..FB is the ultimate time-waster....as if I needed another way to waste time ;)

  • Oh for goodness sake, I tried to find you to friend you…but there are a million women with your name! Will you be my friend? ;) I am listed as Andrea Steedle Walters

When I was looking for my first basenji over 15 years ago I spent a lot of time on your website and really learned a lot from you even though we’ve never met! I’m in NE Ohio and am on my 4th basenji and I hear your name and see it on a dog here and there. It’s a small world when you have a “rare breed” sometimes ☺️.

Isis is darling! By all means do a 'well baby' visit with your vet, and order the DNA swab for fanconi, huge peace of mind. I had a wonderful Isis many years ago, I love the name!

@Lenora: She had got up from her nap, gone into the bedroom and knocked the ironing board over on her head, all in the space of less than a minute! LOL. Bella almost beaned herself during Christmas. She jumped up on the hearth and tried to pull down one of the stockings. It was held up by a very heavy wrought iron stocking holder. I heard it hit the floor and came into find her with the stocking in her mouth. It must have just missed her by an inch or so. She had gone for 3 weeks with no interest in the stockings. Don't know why they managed to get her attention that particular day. I sure hope she calms down at least a little bit when she's older.

This is the main problem right now, I suppose. The civil war's in the Republik of Kongo. I have been talking to a owner of Avongara Basenjis, who's daughter has been in Afrika with the last big expedition. And she had the same thoughts than I have: we thought, that if there are some Basenjis left (the ones which have not landed in the cooking pans), they are spread all over the forrest regions. Most of the human inhabitants of this region have left their houses for the next bigger city to find a little security and help there…. it is absolutely horrible, what mus go on there. But similar actions in other parts of Africa (Mali and Burkina Faso are always at the border of war like actions) plus in lots of these areas there are now many refugees from other areas which make the problems not easier for the habitants....http://www.azawakh.com/azawakhfriends/english/index.html Regards, Esther

There's no animal so resourceful as a hungry basenji. They were slighted you know for centuries being last in line at the cooking pot.
