What are some good flea products to use on older Basenjis? When I lived in Houston over 10 years ago, I had used Frontline and Advantix, two different times and both for only a few months as my dogs picked up fleas from staying at a kennel. I also used a cedar spray for their bedding and kennels. The dogs I used it on were young at the time. My dogs ages are 13, 12, 10, and 6.
I know there are now generic versions of some of the monthly flea products. Do these work just as well? What about natural flea sprays? There are so many products available in the catalogs, it gets confusing, especially not knowing what should be used on senior dogs!
Thanks,
Jennifer
I would walk him in the backyard with a leash and give him plenty of treats!

This boy looks like he could be PB but he is injured and his tail is hanging down. He is listed as a Beagle mix but has long legs. He weighs 23 lbs and is estimated to be 2 years old. He is a stray and was turned in May 6 and his due out date is May 9. He allows handling and petting and is rated green. GREEN animals are those animals who were relaxed, easy to handle, and who showed no concerning behavior during the exam. I sent the info to a contact with BRAT last night but am not sure if she received it as I have not received a response. Could someone send the information about him to BRAT? Is there anyone in the NYC area that could take a look at him to see if he is a Basenji? I have read that the NYC Shelters do not answer their phones.

I could not get on yesterday (Saturday) as it gave me an error message like the site was down or something!

Sorry for your losses. I have been trying not to buy cooking/eating items made in China. I remember when I lived in Houston and there was a recall for ceramic items that had lead in them. There was a mention of testing items for lead that one could do at home and I believe send in. You might want to do a google search.

The other numbers are from another registry, APRI. Who is the breeder of your dog? I thought Cindy Clausen who used the Lindley Creek kennel name and lives in KS was no longer breeding Basenjis. In early 2011 during a USDA inspection, she had 224 dogs and 39 puppies. Please do not buy from pet stores. The breeding dogs live in kennel buildings or barns and not in the house, are crated 24 hours a day and get little human interaction.
I just looked at some of her breedings and she must really use older Bs as there is a dog that has a dam who was 10 years old when whelped. This dam was bred 7 times and these are just the ones we know about in the pedigree database. The dam's name is Lindley Creek Odessey. These breeders are disgusting as they literally breed dogs to death as I have seen older toy breed dogs at the auctions and some of them are in pitiful shape!

I would definitely have her see an opthalmologist. My dogs have eye problems and they go to one.

The frequent urination does sound like a medical issue/problem. I know she is very young but has an ultrasound been done to make sure everything is okay.

Have you contacted vet offices and low cost neuter/spay clinics? Since he is intact and someone may be keeping him, the finder may go and have him neutered.
