@KMac: I contacted Arlene (above). She was wonderful!! And I look forward to getting in contact with her when the time is right! She was VERY knowledgeable about her dogs and gave me sooo much amazing advice and is willing to help out with making sure basenji's are right for us. So I agree - Ontario has wonderful breeders! Thank you! It was also very nice talking to you also.

Hi Andrew- My name is Heidi and we have a 7 year old girl named Princess that we are going to have to find a new home. We live in West Chicago, Illinois. Would you be interested in a housebroken young girl?

One of my chow customers was named Tedioso Great. Teddy was an amazing dog. We called him a lab in a chow coat. Then a fellow groomer clipper burned his groin area. He never even flinchec, much less bit. They brought him into the office to show the burn (it was a fairly bad one) and Teddy jumped in my lap. LOL I think he thought I could save him. I adored that fuzzy lump. Others? Oh wow. Most of my stories about them involve stitches and plastic surgery. Not on me but on my fellow groomers. I charged a premium and made the owner stay with the dog.

Thanks! I am trying to get ahold of the people I got her from but I lost their phone number…. She was from a farm way up north. They said the dad had wondered over to their house, and they don't know who's dog it was. The son saw it I guess and said it looked like a small pitbull, but I don't think he knew for sure. I really think she's 1/2 basenji.

Big hugs to you for adopting an older basenji. My heart gets broken when I see the senior b's on the BRAT web page. :( So give Pippi a hug for me.

I think opinions are valuable. I think it isn't valuable to keep repeating yours as if a fact.

Link is about 18" at the shoulder and 30 pounds. He is a very strong dog for size, so the whole pitbull x basenji may not be far from truth. My neighbors are convinced he is what happens when you cross a pit and chihuahua (I really hope not). I've also thought about red heeler mix. At the dog park everyone asks if he is a basenji, and his trainer says absolutely some kind of sighthound mix. On a side note, discovered this week during Balloon Fiesta that he is terrified of hot air balloons. Unfortunately the balloons have been going directly over my place the last couple of days. This has actually led to him peeing in the yard much more than usual and then running back inside to hide from the "sky monsters". I attached a pic to help you see his relative size. He is very sad in that pic because I left outside alone for a few minutes. [image: attachment_p_121496_0_p_00033-resized.jpg]

Casey - I am in the same position as you - not quite ready for a basenji (elder cats in the home), but doing tons of research. I have visited dog shows and spoken with breeders at the shows, and I have found this to be the best way to see the dogs, ask the breeders how much socialization they do with the new puppies, etc. One breeder in Washington state even holds a basenji play weekend. So, meet lots of breeders and ask them lots of questions. You'll find it invaluable down the road.

LOL agile, Sayblee did yodel for me but much more for the spousal unit. Arwen doesn't do it at all and at 8 not likely to happen. Cara has had one almost yodel. :( She does musical yawns a lot though, and barks. Well more like boofs.
