We have a few of the "usual" words – esp. "cookie" -- but what really gets both B's going -- or should I say coming running from even a different room -- is if they hear Gypsy's jaw snap, as in "she just got food, what's in it for us". Amazing the distance from which they can hear Gypsy get a bite of anything. LOL

@Basenji_Boy: [image: ren11.jpg] This is Ren our terrier mix, she's 13. She thinks she's a Basenji. But I see the ears look the same and her tail has like a quarter curl to it. We call her the short legged Basenji!:) She looks like the "Queen Bee"! So adorable!

I've seen, but never tasted, red velvet cake. Looks like everyone got a chance to enjoy it, despite Tiggy! Magnum was unbelievably well behaved during our Thanksgiving. Even my DH commented on it. I didn't even have to kennel him during dinner. I was so proud of him!

EL D is almost 4 and his neck is 14. My Vet carries a toothpaste made by C.E.T. that comes in chicken or seafood flavor. It supposed to be better for tartar control.

Make sure they get something in their stomachs at night…or early in the morning before they actually get up. My Talker did this for awhile and eventually it stopped when we figured that he had an empty stomach. My dogs free feed and when I'm home with them 3 days out of the week, they very rarely eat during the day. They eat at night mostly and maybe snack around mid day the next day. All dogs are different so I suppose you have to watch each and every dog. But I noticed that if we fed them in the morning, they just don't eat so we stop feeding them in the morning b/c we were wasting a lot of food. Now we feed them 1 cup at night and what they don't eat at night, they will MAYBE snack during the day----but not much.

Owning a basenji requires a good sense of humor and a large dose of patience and a willingness to do some creative thinking to convince the basenjis what you want is really the same thing as what they want. So true, never a dull moment with these dogs

She-Ra helps clean off the Peanut Butter knife (held so she won't cut herself (even though it's a butter knife I've heard stories)) when I'm done with it. Gonna have to try the mashed potato beater this Thanksgiving (it's her first…she's seen this big bird in the fridge but can't quite figure out what to do about it! :) ).

Yes,,,,I know I need to change my name,,,,,,,thank goodness the "kids" havent seen it yet or they may think I only love two of the three of them,,,,,ha ha. Also, we have thought about fostering a BRAT dog. I am a teacher so I have the summers free. We decided to wait until after the spring though to sign up because my son is a senior and I am afraid the spring will be to crazy to try to help a BRAT dog that may have some issues. However, we would be open to the transporting. BTW , Senji, we are going to the Northwest part of IL (about 25 miles from Iowa) soooooooooooooo if you want us to make Czar our first transport that can be arranged!!! :)

It is really great to be able to bring your dog to work. I've been bringing Sol to the gym for the last two weeks, and he is amazingly gentle and tolerant, even with toddlers– I am careful to tell people who fall in love and say they want a basenji that he is unusually tolerant for the breed, and that they need to pick their dog carefully---- I will try to take a picture too. The absolute worst thing about this time change (aside from the lessened amount of daylight walk time), is that Stormie and Nikki were so used to their dinner being served at 6:30 PM. Now they start pesting me at 5:00 PM for dinner and they put on those, "PLEASE MOM! We're STARVING and wasting away to practically NOTHING" eyes! Ha! Little rugrats is putting it nicely! :D ;)

I was talking to my vet friend and here's a couple of other plants/plant products that can be hazardous to dogs … grapes can contribute to renal failure; onions (including the greens) can cause cumulative damage to hemoglobin; and caffeine increases heart rate (just like in us) but can cause seizures in some dogs. Just FYI

I have trained all mine to come to a whistle. I blow the whistle in the house, and give a wonderful tiny treat, repeat several times, then go out and voila! Blow the whistle and they come running. And the sound of the whistle carries along way, further than my voice. Anne in Tampa
