Yes,,,,I know I need to change my name,,,,,,,thank goodness the "kids" havent seen it yet or they may think I only love two of the three of them,,,,,ha ha. Also, we have thought about fostering a BRAT dog. I am a teacher so I have the summers free. We decided to wait until after the spring though to sign up because my son is a senior and I am afraid the spring will be to crazy to try to help a BRAT dog that may have some issues. However, we would be open to the transporting. BTW , Senji, we are going to the Northwest part of IL (about 25 miles from Iowa) soooooooooooooo if you want us to make Czar our first transport that can be arranged!!! 🙂

It is really great to be able to bring your dog to work. I've been bringing Sol to the gym for the last two weeks, and he is amazingly gentle and tolerant, even with toddlers– I am careful to tell people who fall in love and say they want a basenji that he is unusually tolerant for the breed, and that they need to pick their dog carefully----

The absolute worst thing about this time change (aside from the lessened amount of daylight walk time), is that Stormie and Nikki were so used to their dinner being served at 6:30 PM. Now they start pesting me at 5:00 PM for dinner and they put on those, "PLEASE MOM! We're STARVING and wasting away to practically NOTHING" eyes! Ha! Little rugrats is putting it nicely! 😃 😉

I was talking to my vet friend and here's a couple of other plants/plant products that can be hazardous to dogs … grapes can contribute to renal failure; onions (including the greens) can cause cumulative damage to hemoglobin; and caffeine increases heart rate (just like in us) but can cause seizures in some dogs. Just FYI

I have trained all mine to come to a whistle. I blow the whistle in the house, and give a wonderful tiny treat, repeat several times, then go out and voila! Blow the whistle and they come running. And the sound of the whistle carries along way, further than my voice.

I love my basenji heater in bed with me…. especially since it has gotten down to 29 degrees here the past couple of nights!! We finally had to turn the heat on too!!

The only alcohol Ruby tried, was she licked some red wine out of my glass…did not like it at all. In fact, immediately after she licked it she made a really funny face, stood up straight on her hind legs and started boxing in the air (she was acting a bit drunk because it was so crazy). It was hilarious and my comment to my father, was "if she acts that way after one sip, just think what would happen if she drank the whole glass :D".

I've since offered her a sip of red wine and she won't come anywhere near it.

Tucker goes through 3 or more rawhide 'bones' or the flat rolled 'bones' in a week. He loves them and has never had any problems. The vet told me that there's no reason that he can't have them as long as they don't cause him any problems, most of which would be noticable (choking, intestinal blockage, etc). He's never had any problems. I gave him one of those dark colored pig ears once and he bit it once and it shattered into tiny needlelike pieces. Never did that again.

We have found one or two squirrel carcasses in the yard over time, but I'm not sure who's killing them. Gypsy has in her youth, but I'm not sure she has the eyesight or speed for that anymore, so it's probably one of the Basenjis. Grosses me out!

I know they'd both like to make lunch out of my cats.

Sahara does the same, she will stick her head through just enough to see you and then helps you get dry by licking. She loves to help out, and will take a bath pretty easy now. Daddy also took her with him to shower and she did good. We have also taken her in our boat with a lifepreserver of course and she liked it ok. Hubby put her in the river with him and she was fine with him. Yea, they do have the sweetest personalities, and we love our Sahara sooooooo much.

my thanks to all of you for your wonderful advice - i will take everything that you all have said into consideration before making a decision - however my wife and i have decided that our grieving over the loss of our 4 year old is not over yet so we are going to delay any decision until we can get past this point - with that in mind, and realizing how difficult these discussions have been for me, i am going to unsubscribe myself from this site until such time as we can come to better terms with our situation - again, my thanks to all of you for trying to help - Manny
