Basenji Rescue

My old fanconis boy just wouldn't take the pills. I tried to hide them in everything, and he would just roll the "item" around in his mouth and spit out the pill. But your so right. Getting dogs to take treats, in one gulp is a life saver!

Oh, that's great! Sort of a weird story on how they got the pup, eh?

My Cosmo (ooops, I meant, WE, the humans) just finished a doggie basic manners class… The instructor is an AKC-certified CGC (certified good citizen) evaluator... I think she is one of those folks who took in one of the Vicks dogs -- and the dog that she trained is now a therapy dog :p:):D... She's very compassionate of dogs, especially those that people have given up on... This one was a very happy story!

Oh I'm glad to hear she is doing well. Don't feel bad, you DID get her out of that shelter and into BRAT's system….

What caused the fight if I can ask? food, attention, or they just looked at each other and said, "why are you here"? There is often a "squabble" or 2 with new dogs..just learning their place. Its helpful to know if you can see what triggers it..

Most of the BRAT folks I know, spend $$ to help dogs that they are moving to other homes. They pay for gas, postage, food, collars, crates…really, almost anything you can think of to get the dogs into shape to go to the new homes with all the "things" that they need. I am afraid I will not be able to give these things to fosters, as I have in the past, due to the paycuts we are all taking. BUT most of us are working for the dogs. We are lucky to have a great support group to help us.

@wizard: Yes - the same. She and Luny get along fairly well (they've had their tiffs already) and I've noticed she does like chasing. I'll look into lure coursing for both of them later this year after the weather warms up. LOL… no surprise there (having tiffs...).... other then that, has having her around helped with Luny?

I will forward this to BRAT, but BRAT doesn't pay for dogs…if the shelter wants to release her to BRAT, I am sure they can help her. But thank you for letting me know. I will send this on asap.

Just an update…..... Buddy is hamming it up on a trial basis with my beautiful Itzyu bitch in the Seattle area :-) He'll probably be seen at shows or lure trials where Bebe will be entered :)

Looks like he has been adopted, yea! Hopefully for reasons other than "hypoallergenic and barkless".

Could it be he has "found" his forever home? You just don't realize it yet? smile….

Thank you for opinions! I don't think she is in any danger in the sanctuary but probably it would be nice to let them know that she might be a basenji - more chances to get adopted. And there's absolutely nothing from a shar pei in her!

Such beautiful girls! I hope they find their forever home, & together, very soon. And kudos to you for helping them in their transport! :)

They built a new building and made sure to build big runs for our large dogs that they handle. Thank you for the donations so far. I really appreciate the help with her. If you know of anyone wanting a basenji let us know ;-) Fannie is destructive but Zareefa is not…
