I was curious if there is anyone who is approved to do home visits for BRAT that can around the Toronto area? My foster boy is ready to go and the forever home is ready for him but we need to get this one technicality out of the way.

There was supposed to be someone to do it today but he canceled, and we had planned transport for next weekend.

Anyone?

It was a long, long time ago…. way before the days of controlling breeding/health testing/screening buyers.... Responsible breeding has only really be around in the last 20/25 years (give or take)
I believe that the Deckers used a few Basenjis back in the early 70's. Again, way, way before the time of real health testing/screening buyers/contracts with spay/neuter requirments

I think in all fairness, you should include the link to your post that was made after his second behavioral evaluation, http://www.basenjiforums.com/showthread.php?8816-Need-Home-for-Basenji

The behaviorists did not "fail" to rehabilitate him, they gave a recommendation you were unwilling to live with.

Awww. Such a cute little girl.

I think that we would be a good foster for a dog like her, or one of the FL dogs. We have experience working with pathologically shy dogs. We have an already established relationship with a great local trainer, and with a veterinary behaviorist. We have 3 dogs here to help with the socialization.

But we have 3 dogs, and a fourth coming within the year. I'm afraid my heart is bigger than what we can really handle. I'm also afraid because there is no guarantee she will be adopted. If I knew it was short-term, and she could go to another place after a few months of work, I would be much more inclined to jump at the chance to foster.
But, with the cats we foster, one has been here a year (tomorrow will be a year actually), and another we finally gave in and adopted after 2 years of swearing we wouldn't. The "normal" cats get adopted quickly (we have had about 10 go through our house, with the longest staying 6 mos.), but the behavior cases that need socialization and desensitization/counter conditioning work tend to stay.

We have only had 2 foster dogs, and they were great and found great homes, but we are running out of friends to convince to adopt dogs. 🙂

I feel like people need to be just as careful when choosing a rescue as they are when choosing a breeder.
Rescues have been found to be hoarders, to be breeders labelling their dogs as rescues as a marketing ploy, or like PETA, to kill 97% of animals they "rescue". The impression I got of this rescue was that it was not one I wanted to work with because they seemed to hold some extreme views.

I am delighted to hear that I was wrong and that this is a good rescue. The situation with the "breeder" is horrible, and I am glad this girl is finally being cared for.
I agree that the breeder has earned herself a place in you know where.

After Estelle passed away while my MIL was in the process of trying to adopt her she is a little gun shy. It is amazing how attached you can get to an animal you haven't even met.
