Hi jagm - Are you really sure you want puppies? Have you ever bred a litter before? It is truly more work than I would have ever thought, especially if you are doing all of the right things, as listed above by tanza & lvoss. Are you prepared to keep 6 or so puppies forever? I used to think to neuter & spay was cruel as well, but realistically, that's only a selfish notion. Good luck in finding your boy a companion! I found one for my girl & that's the best thing I could have done for her, other than having her spayed.

I will get the info and post that. I know they are very young, so I suspect puppies, like 4-8 months I believe.

I want my house filled with Basenjis no one wants. I love my girls so much and they have come out of their misery from being so mistreated. Makes me so sad to see so many Basenjis that need homes.

Yes I do realize there aren't many computers in amish country nor very many amish folks on here, but I got my point across. Now in retrospect I sort of laugh about it too. Sometimes emotions take upper hand and silly things come out, but at least they come out. I also realize not all amish are in to puppy mills, but the few that are leave a bad taste in my mouth and as experience has it, when something tastes bad you tend to not want to taste that again..if you know what I mean.

@lisatest: What do you all think about getting a dog micro chipped? Last night I caved and let her sleep in her bed on our bed. Amazingly no whining. I believe Mia won on this battle. :) She is very precious and she puts a smile on my face every single day. I got my boy microchipped when he was neutered. It didn't cost much extra & I like the extra sense of security I have now. Although, as Tanza said, they do wander. Dallas' started out on his shoulder blade & now is more in his front thigh. If that makes sense. The vet said it is not an issue now but if it keeps moving towards his chest, she will have to remove it & replace it in a better spot. However, it is still completely worth it. Welcome to basenji ownership 101. They are so darn persistant when they want something. Dallas sleeps in my bed & is quite the bed hog! Also, he must sleep under the covers now! Once you give in, there is no going back. Haha. So glad it worked out so well for you & that she makes you so happy. I look forward to seeing more pictures of her!

You can help BRAT even if you can't foster. We need folks to eval dogs coming into rescue, check out homes who want b's, transport, …many things. Sometimes, all you have to do is take your b's over to a home that "THINKS" they want one... After seeing how the real dog behaves, they decide its not the dog for them..that is a good thing! So, please, to offer to do what you can. It all does help. Honestly.

@BasenjiDiva: Wow, Vicki. Although we are down in Savannah, we also have a place up between Young Harris and Hiawassee. Maybe we could meet up sometime. Don't know how our little female hellion would do with your female though. Our male would probably be okay. Also would love to hear more about your petsitting business that you mentioned. When we are up there we would sometimes like to be able to leave for awhile without worrying about the beasties. Pat Hello - Yes, I would love to meet you when you visit your vacation home. razzcinn at aol dot com. I have two female Basenjis that are doing well together, but I, too, would be concerned about another female Basenji. Monday, I'm interviewing a retired older lady who pet sits and she will stay in the home all day and night, if needed. I need a dependable sitter, too. I often babysit for people who would like to go to dinner and get away w/o worrying about their pets. If I can't help you, I'm certain I can recommend several other dependable sitters.

Taz has been in foster care through the Midwest Dog Resuce Network since he was turned over by the breeder (I believe around 8 months old). He had two sisters in foster care with him for a short time but they were adopted quickly. They were all shown on the BRAT website but were not evaluated by, or in the care of BRAT. He is such a handsome boy, I had given some serious thought to adopting him until they updated his profile to say that "he likes to be the boss". My female B absolutely has to be the boss of all other dogs (!) so I knew this combo wouldn't work out :( Here is the link to the organization caring for him: http://midwestdogrescuenetwork.com/default.aspx

Yes, I hope so as well. Its tough for everyone when folks gets a dog who is "different" from what you expect. Temperment and behavior wise that is.

Hard to tell for sure - she does have the wrinkles - but without seeing her tail, it's difficult. In any event, I sure hope she gets adopted soon.
