Hello 'Schouiffy', I must say that my Basenji (5 1/2 months old) has just started to do so exactly the same thing . Is it cause the weather is getting hotter these days?…i don't know. Also, i don't know if i should insist on its eating the same brand or just do as 'Wizard' says, keep the spoonful of canned food for a while, mixed with its dry food. He is hungry i know it..i can hear his stomach growling.. ouf...

I got both of mine as pups, from the same breeder but two years apart. In my lifetime of owning dogs, these two basenjis and one corgi mix rescue that I got as a puppy are my only pups. We've always rescued adult dogs. There's a lot to be said for that, but I have REALLY enjoyed the puppy experience.

@Benkura: I have just sent off for the Fanconi testing kit for 2 of my dogs. They've not arrived yet but when I get the results they will be added to the site. The other 2 dogs will be tested when I can afford it. The website is in a very infant state - I'm learning as I go along. I plan to add pages about my dogs with pics and a guestbook etc. Keep checking for new items. :) That's great…. always good to have the Fanconi test done, especially if the sire and dam were not.... good luck on your results. And you site looks really nice so far.

Ditto to most of above and I'm going to add the one factor that may be an issue - room-mates mean more people to leave the door open or not close it fast enough. They will bolt quickly and don't do the 'come' stuff very well when bunnies and outdoor smells call them. Visitors and beverages - for some reason college students dogs and beer always seem to get mixed up - these folks may be ok but if you ever have social gatherings with beverages - that could be an issue that could also lead to careless door issues. (while it has been a 'few' years since I was a college student - I think I remember it pretty well)

She cleaned up her bowl in under 5 minutes this evening, then promptly walked to the pantry door indicating she wanted more. Guess it was just a teething issue. She's getting plenty of exercise.

@agilebasenji: about leaving the dog outside- It seems like, perhaps due to the current economy, there have been a lot of dogs "missing" lately. I'd be afraid to leave a cute little dog like a basenji out side by himself. Not an issue where I live.

Tillo just ate a big piece of raw Salmon.. (got it for free.. my dad actually sells fish) and he loved it! So.. an occasional fish wouldn't harm your pup. ;) If you want to feed your B raw, you should really try to learn about the different ingredients they need.

Two is great! We have 3 and love it, only problem is when all three want to get loving at the same time and I only have 2 hands. They do keep each other company when you aren't home, and no human can really play the way another basenji can play. It may take a few days or weeks for them to work out their relationship, or they may hit it off right away. But I definatelyrecommend 2!

I was browsing BRAT dogs and noticed one that had scabs in his ears, does anyone know what this is from? That same dog had thyroid issues, is that the cause or is it a separate issue? Just curious…

I just did that with Nemo and Zoni. However, I might suggest that they meet on a more neutral area when you go down. Nemo met the puppy in the middle of strange basenji central in the breeder's house. He was a tad stressed.

@bellabasenji: I worry about the B A R F diet also, my concerns would be the chance of Bella getting Salmonella or E Coli… Yes,I also read today that E coli is the main responsable of diarrhea of children in our countries, so we just limit the risks here so meat as really to be cooked even for dogs. If Bella or any other dog have some intestinal trouble give them a piece of burned wood, I learned it from my Mix groenadael, when she was young I saw her eating burned wood when she had some kind of diarrhea, and I also read that it absorbs toxine or poison. I gave a very small piece of it to Daysie when she came for her stomac. Today I find some dry food for Daysie and her sister, they both taste one of them, Daysie and Maya eat some, but I also put some in their meal and they didn't like it both. So I will try this evening to leave some in plates ans see how much they 'll eat, my big one use to eat in the night. If they eat enough I will reduce rice in their meal .I will go on with meat and vegetables. So I bought some Purina bakers complete 6 weeks 24 months for Daysie and Maya has the same for adult dog, it's very expensive but if it's good for both of them it's good for me too. The trouble is that we don't always find the same.

We tried Jackpot on Merrick & he didn't like it. Then I did a little tast test with Evo & Fromm & he seemed to like the Fromm the best. Hope that this ia good food for him! Anyone have any bad experiences with Fromm?

Thanks for all of the great ideas. I will go to the limited time for feeding and may start to mix in a little wet good as well. I have begun some train with her but was told I have to wait for all of her shots to take her to obedience classes. She has her third set this monday and then the last ones in three weeks. I have almost got her to sit, she does it if she knows I have a treat but struggles if I just come out of the blue and tell her to sit. We're working on it.
