Yes, Nicole that would be good info to add…. but that is going too far at this point. Like Pat said... people have to want to read it. This was just meant to be something that people can START with... Those are basic pages that if someone was looking for a basenji, the would be able to see that the BYB or PM they are considering does NOT fit into .... hence... not the best place to go. Throwing too much info at a person so quickly will be more than enough to make them turn and head for the hills... or buy the first puppy they see... then come looking for help with all it's problems later. BABY STEPS.

The Whole Dog Journal just published their list of Approved Dry Foods. You have subscribe to get the article but they are a great resource and definately worth the subscription price. http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/

about importing to sweden, it is only difficult with time laps and rabies tests etc. when the dog is older then 12 weeks, before that you can ask a special permit at the swedish board of agriculture, to import a puppy under 12 weeks of age, but the sooner you do that the better ofcourse, because you need the permit before the puppy reaches 12 weeks ofcourse :)

The tmeperament and personalities of the dogs weighs heavily into whether things will work out.

@elena86: I bought some organic dog food by a company called Castor and Pollux. It was chicken and brown rice formula. Senji doesn't like it even when I mix it in with something else. He picks out the pieces of the "offending" dog food. Maybe I'll just donate the rest to the shelter. I feed Castor and Pollux too and Buddy seems OK with it. I mix it with frozen raw made by Primal. I also mix in organic canned pumpkin. I rotate the type of raw every week between chicken, duck, lamb and beef.

Congrats on picking a breeder and getting on the future puppy list…hope you are successful in getting a pup! :D How exciting! Oh, and regarding the sleeping - I truly think the secret weapon for sleep, besides wearing my pup out before bed, was the snugglepuppy that Lisa (lvoss) recommended. Definitely get one of those! Liyah had no problems sleeping - I only remember her crying the first 2 nights and then only for 15 or 20 minutes, otherwise, I've always had my full night sleep. So sleepwise, for me a puppy was easy, as was potty training.

@sbaker: Is this something we have a chance of him over coming so he we be able to show in the breed ring Exactly like Nemo says.. you need to take your time and get him used to strangers without forcing him…. But it will take time .... and you can not force the situation Who is his breeder if you don't mind sharing?

@moetmum: I like it its different. If you are anything like me your dogs have lots of names anyway, Rufus answers to Bear at the moment which came about from the song Rupert the Bear which I used to sing to him! Fiji is sometimes called Flea or Felicity (Her show name is Zande Feleji), Kia answers to Kissy shortened from Kissy Keeks and so it goes on! I have to admit to giving mine a few names too… Gracie is grassy arse ( She got all excited when someone said gracias or however you spell it so she ends up being called grassy arse now :D ) or Gravy (again, got all excited when someone mentioned Gravy :o ). Delilah is Lilah, Lils, Lily. Riley is Crickey ( as in Crickey O'Riley :D ) or just Ry. And poor Maya gets called MyMy at home :o Chloe our old lab is Chlodagh or Da Pig :D Thanks to my brother for the second one lol! Beau is The Bobo! And Cassia gets called Cassandra when she has been bad! Its terribly confusing at times

Welcome to the forum, you will enjoy it here and make lots of friends. It doesn't matter that you have never had a Dog before because Basenjis are certainly not like other Dogs. They are wonderful creatures, can be naughty and a challenge but if you fall under their spell you will want more, lol.

What size is a 8 week old pup? I hope to be able to take my pup in the cabin with me in a sherpa bag, but there is a size restriction on the bags. And whats even more annoying there are different restriction according to the plane company. One allows 43 x 31 x 20 cm (length, width, hight), and another is 40x25x23cm. But since a Basenji averages at 40-43cm full grown I can't picture them being 20cm at only 8 weeks….or? It's a short flight for me, around 1hour.
