Thanks woofless I did take everyones advice and would egg her on and I managed to get her to baroo twice but it took like 5 minutes of voice and I was almost horse each time. lol this was weeks ago now and I havent got her to do it again beside I was exhaused after the effort. I am resigned to a silent dog except for an occational whine. We cant even get her to howl. All my friends think I should be thanking the lord for such a quiet dog but like you I was hoping to get the yodel that I remembered so well as a kid. I havent been to the dog park yet maybe the excitement will get it out of her I hope to get there tomorrow since i'm off work.

Wow. I am impressed. We're still at the stage where she won't be crated, can't stand to have one of us out of her sight, and if we're ignoring her she grabs something she isn't supposed to and runs all over the place until we have to pay attention and play. We're having dreams of an adult dog…......hopefully she'll get there someday.

Kayah tries to attack it but when it gets close to her she runs away and hides.

You might also check with your local humane society animal shelter - the one here offers various classes (regular obedience plus good citizen plus plus) and you can take them at your own pace though I'm not sure how that works (I just got the notice). I buy most of my toys online since the stores around here cater to the hunting dogs. Don't forget to check Amazon.com too - they have a wide selection.

Oh My! So sorry! I know if it were Pearl I would be terrified! Poor Baby! I want to cry fo him. If you love him half as much as I love Peal, I'm sure you are devistated. (And I am sure you love him a much as I love Pearl) I pray Shango is fine and has no permanent injuries. Hugs him for me.

Ahhh yes, the timeless Basenji trick! Bella does the same things, she amazes me how smart she is. Scratching the door while we are eating dinner is her favorite. She then (of course) runs back past you in pure Basenji fashion to try and steal your food!!! Ya Gotta love these 'Senjis!:D:D:D

@snorky998: The funniest thing after a sleep fall is they always look around to see 'who pushed them'. Then they give you the stink eye for the next couple of hours!!! When very young, my Katie rolled to he bottom of the bed and slid over the edge. The top sheet was still tucked in so she was in a hammock type situation. When the top sheet finally came loose and she hit the carpet, blamed it on us, and wouldn't sleep under the covers for days. Mine hasn't looked like she wanted to know who pushed her off…mine is more like "you didn't just see that, I would never do something so dumb." ;)

Nice photos, Jonny was a good boy! He was probably happy to play with another basenji! Glad it all went so well.

@sharronhurlbut: Yea, well, maybe you can b proof the house and leave him out with a nice chew toy. My 2 b's sleep when I am gone. I think that's what my B does as well. I swear every time I return, not a single thing is out of place. Not even his toys. He's usually stretching as I enter. He acts like he's just getting up from a nap on the floor, but I always can tell he's been sleeping on the couch (he doesn't know humans can sense heat). Funny how he hides that. :D

Ya - I'm relatively new to basenjis too, but I'd learned real quick that the only things we can leave lay are the toys. My 2 coffee tables have scratches all over them & since we've brought our boy home, I've found a hole in my curtain, holes in my couch pillow, teething marks on my dining room chairs…I never knew how good my girl actually was until our little fella decided to show her up...

@Shelby: One thing is that Travis comes home around 2:00 and leaves at 5:00 and I come home a couple hours later from work. He does this all after Travis leaves. I think it upsets him. If he's only destructive after Travis leaves, you can begin with putting him in a crate for that period. It's probably not too long, so you don't have to feel too guilty ;) :)

Home is a dog's "territory" and sometimes they will protect it as such (especially against other dogs)… Possibly the breeder is concerned this would be an issue. Maybe she would consider meeting somewhere "neutral" with you and some of the dogs...

They look almost like a fluffy basenji, at least the ones with the pointy ears and more curly tails.

My cat was here for nearly 15 years before I got my B puppy. The puppy of course wants to play, and the cat hates her with a passion. The cat stands her ground and growls, hisses, spits and goes after Shaye with claws raking - the one thing that perhaps is going to save my B is that she is learning the "leave it" command, and is starting to ignore the cat when I give the command. They will never be friends, but eventually I'm hoping the dog ignores the cat through the "leave it" command. The command is even beginning to save my couch, pillows, chair legs, etc., etc. - keep at it!
