to Terry and Tanza thanks thanks.for the ideas i will try them both and hopefully get a good sample. Our boy's brother passed away suddenly from what was thought to be fanconi Very important we get this done. Our babies are actually uncle and niece and they are 8 & 7 years old. Our breeder is great and knows all their history of parents, grandparents, great grands etc. No one else has tested postive only grandfather and great grand father. We want to know their results so we can be proactive in their care Thank you very much

Sounds like it is best to just avoid anything made in China and if that is true for all dog treats then it should be kept in consideration for human food as well.

I had an elderly dog on Anipryl and it helped her but I had to take her off one of her pain medications-Tramadol/Ultram and her pain could not be controlled with just Metacam so I had to take her off the Anipryl. Please check the drug interaction listing for both of these drugs. The internist did not mention the interaction but I researched it ahead of time. Jennifer

Cooper is a rescue of unknown origin (found as a stray, in a shelter for their maximum time, then to an all-breed rescue group). His ears are somewhat offset at resting position and his tail was docked before he was found as a stray, but he otherwise looks and acts like a trindle basenji. We occasionally entertain the idea that he may be part rat terrier or something else of similar size and color, but he has to be at least 75% basenji.

@Buddys: ihope it is a step in the right direction! :) It absolutely is a step in the right direction. The AVMA is one of the nation's leading associations setting the standard for veterinary medical care. Official recognition by the American Veterinary Medical Association that there are cases in which rabies vaccination "poses an unacceptably high risk to the health of the individual animal" provides a powerful boost to our legislative efforts to incorporate medical exemption clauses into the 35 state laws/regulations which currently do not have them.

Oh, yes! Dogs can have seasonal allergies!!! Mine has seasonal (weeds and grasses) allergies, food allergies, and is even allergic to humans. His allergies are considered pre-existing conditions now, so pet insurance is not an option for us. Your vet will probably start your dog on Benadryl, but we've also had prescriptions for hydroxyzine and Zyrtec for our dog (only use these with your vet's dosing instructions). A simple thing you can do is to wipe off your dog with a damp cloth to get any pollen off of her paws and belly. It will keep her from tracking outdoor allergens inside, just as you would prevent by taking off your shoes at the door.

And just because she can "chew" on the other side, food stuffs and bacteria can still get in through the bad tooth. Honestly, not something to put off….. the sooner the better

Hey about the feces. My princess, Chiomba Dayo, had dark feces as well. Brought her to the vet and they said it may of been blood. Some tests were done and $ was spent to find it wasn't blood but bilirubin. apparently its caused from to much stomach acid and or the liver not being able to break up fats… We were told to try a low does antacid, over the counter no name brand. This improved her feces color and her appetite! But its just one more thing to do every morning. I feel like she owns me, not the other way around.

I ordered a test kit for Nemo since he was having what looked like a bad case of inflammatory bowel disease. I had suspicions of some food intolerances and I was going to trial this test to see if it came back with results which were consistent with what I observed. For instance he has always had issues with chicken so I was curious if it would indicate an intolerance. Unfortunately the full panel wasn't available until February and I got the test kit at a point where he was too ill for the test to be of any real use, so I never used it. So, I will be curious to see if it is worth the expense in the future. As much of a pain as food issues are, it would be worth the money for me if it actually works.
