Our male does this to us if we are not quite comfy enough for him to lie on ;)

A couple of years ago I bought a real dog bed and mine love them. Love the $12 ones as much as the $40 ones, like the sides to curl up against, or to hold their heads. I had bought big flat beds for them before, but they all really love the ones with sides. I like Buddy's idea of stuffing old quilts with foam 'egg crate', too!

What a voice! He is clearly making his displeasure known. I know it makes us all giggle, but you are right to wonder if those above and below you also think how cute it is.

I love it when they talk and yodel. Whenever they do I always give them huge praises and lots of pets, though this positive reinforcement does not seem to yield any more yodels. I am very excited when I do get them.

laugh Mine apparently JUST figured out she can do that this last weekend. =) I was so impressed. I think as long as your Basenji can get down safely, and isn't going to be tempted to hop over any fences… why not? Now if they actually catch one, just hope they don't bring it inside…

Thabo is fascinated with horses, though he prefers to have a fence between himself and the equine. He has sniffed noses with one, and later the two of them stayed near the fence and looked closely at each other.

Ours are confined to the porch when we leave for work. They have an adequate amount of room to move around and they also have a doggie door they can go out to access the yard. It is great, if it is nice out they go and lounge on the deck and chase those pesky squirrels and if the weather is not good they can retreat back to the porch and lay on their bed inside. They are separated from the rest of the house with a baby gate that mounts to the wall. So far, fingers crossed, they haven't been able to figure out they can jump over the baby gate and it's been 3 years since we have moved into the house.

Both of my B's absolutely LOVE peppers, that and I cannot get then away from me when I cut up a cucumber either. But they will eat just about any fruit or vegetable (the good ones of course). Broccoli and cauliflower are another favorite!

Thanks everyone for all of the helpful information! We did go and visit someone with a Basenji shorly after I had first posted this question. My son and husband played with the dog and hugged it and it licked them. We stayed for a while. no issues! we are expecting our new Basenji to arrive around the middle of this month. very excited!

I have a general question. Does anybody elses Basenji not like to be picked up. Ours sometimes loves it, and sometimes not. Also sometimes she runs up to dogs as quiet as can be and plays, and than other times she makes a squeeling noise, and people are afraid she is picking a fight with their dog. But I think shes just talking. She squeels at our new Whippet puppy, and loves to play with her and is as gentle as can be, considering the Whippet puppy is really rough on my poor Basenji baby girl. does anyone know what the squeeling means. The baroo I get she does that all the time. The squeeling is confusing.

I was interested to see this post. I have currently 2 B. gals, Tootsie and Peanut. Tootsie by day is a yodeling lunatic, but sleeps like a rock. Peanut, on the other hand is mostly silent, except for an occasional growl when needed, and has been that way for the 4 years we've had her. About 3 or 4 times in the past year, though, we will wake up to the most mournful, creepy howl I've ever heard.. Pea 'sleep howling' I guess you'd call it! It truly sounds a bit "other worldly" and it always makes me hope she isn't having a really bad doggie dream!

GenJMar- My 96 year old g'mother said you should send this to the Democratic headquarters. She's seen a lot in her years, but this is still on her mind. :-)
