Cute puppy model

Basenji Talk
  • Just received notice of a DrsFosterandSmith clearance sale and what do I see but the cutest basenji pup!
    http://www.drsfostersmith.com/general.cfm?gid=47&ref=4612&subref=AA&cmpid=E--PT--10112-_-CLR

  • Is is a cutie, it is almost non-coincidental that we are seeing more and more of the breed in adverts.

  • Puppy is so cute! I look through that catalog religiously and very rarely have ever seen a basenji. Once, I believe. Now twice. Thinking of getting the girls new beds for Christmas - they now have thick, fluffy flat beds with velour on one side and fleece on the other, covers are washable - any suggestions on what other types the B's like?

  • Hey Shaye's Mom!

I have decided that anything over the price of $4 is a waste of my hard earned cash. Two of my beloved, one being Uzie (oh my) seem to think that it is ok to use the edges of the bedding as a ?pacifier??? Just love it when they discover that there is fun stuff to rip out after a hole has been made. My past time has become going to thrift stores or garage sales and finding a treasure of a comforter that someone has decided to get rid of. Folded in half or quartered in and around an egg crate,(we must make it comfy for goodness sake!) makes an exceptional 'bed' for the pups…..right up my ally financially....! for the older gent I just so happen to have an egg-crate with magnets in it for his arthritis............Hubby did not like it.....

  • BuddysPal - that sounds like a great idea, I'll start looking around. Although to be fair to the girls, they seem to think their beds are sacrosanct - they never chew on them or anything else - the whole rest of the house is fair game, but the most they ever do to their beds is after the covers have been washed and put back on and I shake them all up to make sure the stuffing is even, they jump on them and paw for a little while to make sure there is a "dent" in the middle to make it a nest. Maybe I'll just rethink the replacements.

  • A couple of years ago I bought a real dog bed and mine love them. Love the $12 ones as much as the $40 ones, like the sides to curl up against, or to hold their heads. I had bought big flat beds for them before, but they all really love the ones with sides. I like Buddy's idea of stuffing old quilts with foam 'egg crate', too!

When we say responsible for the dogs forever - we do really mean forever. I have animals returned to me when they were 9 years old because of significant family issues or death of the owner - I currently have a 12 year old and a 7 year old that now live with me. Think about what that means - because even those of us who are prepared for that - really are never prepared for the impact on our families houses and other dogs. You say you want to keep 2 - be advised that the everyone hanging out together in basenji world is NOT the norm. Most can have 1 male and 1 female - if you are planning on keeping 2 - you may have a problem - not right away but eventually you are likely to do so. I am not sure that I remember who or where Chaos came from but fanconi testing and eye testing for PRA would be critical as well as thyroid screening. What titles does she have - is she a fast as the wind Field CH or Obedience or rally or conformation CH. That would allow you to have evidence that she has characteristics that are valuable to the breed as a whole and quite frankly if all you want are a couple more basenjis - there are many many out there that could use a forever home. In any event - think about it - it's not as easy as you think - if you are going to do it right - and finding good homes is also not as easy as you think. You may not have the experience in weeding out puppy mills who might want your pups and living where you do - you are in the midst of some that do produce basenjis.

@agilebasenji: You really, really do not want to bring a puppy home that is younger than 8 weeks old. In many states it is illegal AND the puppy misses out on learning valuble puppy skills, most importantly bite inhibition. Many breeders even suggest taking a new puppy home around 10 weeks. This is SO TRUE!!! 7 wks is way to young to be bring home a puppy and taking it from his/her littermates…. I don't let puppies go till they are 10wks... And please do not just take someone's word for it that there is no Fanconi.... please check it out for yourself. This is not to say that people are not honest.. but as they always say "Buyer Beware".... it is your responsibility to verify. Also were there any other health tests done? As Kathy pointed out, most of the responsible breeders all know each other... so I would have to ask the same thing? Who has 7wk puppies? I have not heard of a litter.....

The individual pics are great and they are not on this site anywhere, just group shots of the same pups. Lady's and Isabelle's. They are just the cutest little things. I've picked the one I want :D Unfortunately there just isn't anymore room in the inn. Ashley
