@eeeefarm: The digital age has somewhat muddied the waters. Once upon a time you could buy a book or a DVD and when you were finished using it you could pass it on to your friends so that they could enjoy it (you still can!), and that isn't considered stealing. Make a copy for them to view, with the same exact result (they get to see the movie or read the book), and suddenly it is illegal. The law was drafted to prevent people from making numerous copies and selling them for profit, a clear infringement to copyright. For a person to make a copy for a friend to view rather than snail mailing the original seems to be in a "shades of grey" area. I'd be surprised if most on this forum haven't at some point downloaded something for personal use that would infringe copyright if the letter of the law was applied. You make a good point Shirley.. except that even 40 yrs ago you could tape or even xerox music/books to share, but it wasn't legal. The problem is that if a person LOANS you his movie, snail mail, it goes to one person only, and it goes back to the owner… you don't get to keep a copy. If you put on a server, many can copy it. Right now musicians are in terrible financial straits over people pretty much stealing their work instead of buying it. Some music programs (I am blanking on names) pay the artists a bit every time you listen to their music, thanks to advertising. That's great. But if I want to own a song on my own computer or to burn on a disk, call me a patsy-- but yes, I buy it. I believe people who create books, music, art... they have a right to get paid as much as your plumber, mechanic or grocer. I don't sneak into movie theaters either, btw, not even if I could do it and not be caught. Many digital books can be loaned, btw. I have borrowed a few and loaned many of mine through Amazon. You could, of course, just let someone borrow your e-reader or mp3 player, lol, but that's more generous than I want to be. I don't know what the solution will be years from now... I know that cable companies tried to block recording movies and that didn't go over so well. So I do agree there are certainly conflicting and gray areas. But a cavalier approach to stealing, justifying it because the owner is rich, etc... that bothers me. And it bothers me for someone to try to pretend it is legal or for educational etc. If you are going to do something, man up. :) Thanks for the calm voice. :)

martingales- only thing I can use that my boy wont slip out of…that, and if you are used to a choke, this is considered a choke with safety. I am not a fan of collars on all the time due to possible strangulation (i crate my boy)....so I feel the need to put a disclaimer that a martingale does have a "loop on the collar that may catch on something

Still best tip if you have a basenji… Go for a walk together....

Molly is a 'desert dog' most of the year, she doesn't really like 'wet' ground. Bath? she is 8 1/2 never had a bath, cleans herself, everyone comments on how 'beautiful' she looks. When in the northwest, with the rain, she will go in the wet grass. and she loves the tall grass, guess she thinks she is back in the jungle.

First thought… good luck with that. Let me know what helps you. Second, okay it does get better as they get older. Third, yep yep to eeefarms... rain is my "sleep in friend" too. If I wake up after 8, most of the time it's raining. Otherwise they poke me to death. I do agree sleeping IN THE BED WITH YOU may help, but once you start it, it is hard to ever get them out again. If peeing is first, maybe remove water after 8? Play the pup's butt off before bed to wear out.

@OchiJE: Only problem, is when she's done playing fetch, she likes to tear them to pieces. Or you could just intervene and remove the toy once she is bored with "fetch". My boy was trained this way (I can't take the credit, his breeder had him for his first three years and she teaches all her Basenjis which toys are "chewable" and which are off limits!). He does not destroy toys, even though I do not put them out of reach. I wouldn't expect a confirmed toy destuffer to change his or her ways, but it can be taught if started early. Otherwise, strict supervision can extend the life of toys, and also increase their "worth" as a reward. Restricted access makes them much more attractive! All the update from her owners was on FB… she is out of surgery and the leg repair was great... she is doing well and will go home with Karla tomorrow afternoon! And yes, I would have posted sooner, but seems the site was down for a bit this morning

Oh Yes Joanne, she goes to local park several times a week and to our big Sunday get together every week. There is one male basenji, a sweet brindle, that she grumbles at all the time. She is a grumbler, all the others ignore her as she cusses at them. Some days worse than others. She is pretty funny, most of her growls turn into 'grodles' …talking sounds...as she fusses at everyone...even us! She is a dainty, pretty, prissy girly-girl with a real potty-mouth!

Jet was lucky, to have a friend like you. Max is carrying on the spring- chicken thing at 26pd 3 years, Jet would be proud. Sorry for your lost…

Now Vito has less fur, because is so warm here, and he is more soft :-) He grow up on Mexico City and live outside now he lives on the south of Mexico with 40 degrees and he lives inside.. so.. he dont need that fur anymore

When you are dealing with something that an animal is afraid of, the best approach is to find his "comfort" distance from the thing that scares him. A busy street makes this a bit more difficult, as you have to find a way to give him that "distance". If you have a car, maybe transporting him to a less busy area might make a good start. Perhaps a side street, where he is comfortably away from busy traffic. You could then walk toward the busy street, pausing as soon as you see some sign of anxiety, and retracing your steps just little until he is in his "comfort zone" again. Gradually…...with the use of bribery and rewards......ask him to approach closer to the scary stuff. Liberally reward him for being there, then retreat. The idea is to not force, let him decide when he is ready. If he feels he can retreat at any time, he will have more confidence. This approach may take awhile, but is less likely to create a permanent aversion. (it works well with spooky horses).

Scat mats work well! (for cats, too).

Basenjis are perpetual two year olds. If your attention is on anything that is not them, they feel the need to bring you back to "reality". A Basenji considers himself/herself the center of your universe and expects to be treated accordingly, the exception being when they are getting into mischief and don't want you to know about it. Otherwise your undivided attention is expected, and demanded, especially if it is obvious that something else is foremost in your thoughts. As the nominal owner (otherwise known as "staff") of a Basenji, you are expected to know that! ;)

Yep, we saw that one, too (the coffeehouse one). I'm guessing the animator or someone involved with the show has really good taste in dog breeds! :)
