Jaycee did really well with all noise she was ready for bed it was past her bedtime. I think she thought the noise was just Eli paying another game. Rita Jean

All female dogs go through a false pregnancy after their season because they get hit with the hormones whether they are pregnant or not. Some girls just show more signs of the false pregnancy than others. My half Avongara girl gets milk with every false pregnancy and currently looks more milky than Rio who has a pup she is nursing. The only reason I didn't put him on Sophie when Rio didn't have enough milk was I was afraid she would get so full of milk that mastitis would be a real concern with only one pup to feed. As for the grooming, mine seem to go through phases where they groom each other to the point of annoyance. Today Rio groomed Nicky's ears until he finally got up and left because she refused to take a hint that he was done. But they each have their moments and usually Nicky is the one doing the over grooming of the girls' ears.

Ciara wrote this to Santa in her blogg (http://www.rissa.cc/blog/Ciarasdiary)::) This year I have a special Christmas wish for Santa Claus: give me healthy and easy puppies on January! Help us to find loving homes with common sense, understanding the basenji temperament and activity needs. Give me chance to quide my kids the proper start of living: enough self-confidence and courage to meet every day challenges, initiative thinking to avoid problems and a lot of adaptability and sense of humor to meet the new owners odd manners. Sending lot of X-mas yodels to all my friends!

So all you guys were right now that zoey has had time to investigate it she is enjoying the snow. Too much! even though she is shivering with cold I have to force her in the house. Its funny watching her she will catch sight of the shifting snow as she walks stops to sniff it which sends out more flakes so she shoves her face in the snow which causes more snow to move then she pounces that. Even though she now seems to love it I still hate the cold missing california right about now.

When we say responsible for the dogs forever - we do really mean forever. I have animals returned to me when they were 9 years old because of significant family issues or death of the owner - I currently have a 12 year old and a 7 year old that now live with me. Think about what that means - because even those of us who are prepared for that - really are never prepared for the impact on our families houses and other dogs. You say you want to keep 2 - be advised that the everyone hanging out together in basenji world is NOT the norm. Most can have 1 male and 1 female - if you are planning on keeping 2 - you may have a problem - not right away but eventually you are likely to do so. I am not sure that I remember who or where Chaos came from but fanconi testing and eye testing for PRA would be critical as well as thyroid screening. What titles does she have - is she a fast as the wind Field CH or Obedience or rally or conformation CH. That would allow you to have evidence that she has characteristics that are valuable to the breed as a whole and quite frankly if all you want are a couple more basenjis - there are many many out there that could use a forever home. In any event - think about it - it's not as easy as you think - if you are going to do it right - and finding good homes is also not as easy as you think. You may not have the experience in weeding out puppy mills who might want your pups and living where you do - you are in the midst of some that do produce basenjis.

@Basenjimamma: Otis would've immedietly sat down and starting high fiving for treats..he thinks that works..well it sorta does.. Love the worried wart look.. Zoey is like that when she smells something good she tries every trick she knows hoping one will trigger a treat. Mostly she plays dead then looks at you hopefully!! Those pictures are so cute.

I am with JazzysMom… I never barracade my tree... and we never did it when I was growing up either. The only thing my dogs do is eat the candy canes... so what... no different than the licorice I share with them! This morning, Cha Cha was chasing the IG back behind the tree and that was his "hiding place" from her. I do remember growing up that the only time anything was taken off the tree was when I would hang dog bones on it :D Now, who can blame them for scaling the tree then?? We have our presents on the dining table right now... only because I was setting up a "background" for puppy pictures and then if I move them to below the tree... where is Preston/IG going to run and hide after he steals the basenjis toys??

This could be, i think she jsut loves the baby that much. The other kids can scream and yell all they want and she doens't even move, but the baby whines and she is on it.

@Kingsley1230: I am definitely wondering the same thing about lilu(B mix), she is 3 1/2 months old and she is already 7 kilos….looks like shes gonna be a big gurl! The fact that she is a mix, you never will know how much she will grow or how big she will get…. as they say, what you see is what you get...

She-Ra goes to our local park at least twice a week. It's a nice area with a sectioned-off area for smaller dogs or if a dog is having "behavior issues" you can take it in there if there's no other dogs. A lot of "regulars" maintain law and order if a dog owner is getting out of line (allowing their dog to bully, etc.). She enjoys it. Runs in to do her business really quick. Sniffs everyone, but hates it when other sniff her. There'll be the occasional "give me space" growl if too many dogs get around her at once and sniff. Spends most of the time sniffing and standing in the middle of the park staring like a statue at something. Then you get the eventual chase going - those are always fun because the other owners are like 'Oh, She-Ra's gonna get caught!' and I grin and say 'No she's not.' as she runs circles around all the other dogs. I love watching my dog run…it's poetry in motion. After about an hour she's pooped and ready to go back home. We've had very few incidents with her that haven't been swiftly fixed. She seems to enjoy going quite a bit, and we're making friends with some of the regulars...I guess we're fairly regular now by this point as well.

My best friend's 2 German shepherds both sit in my lap when I go visit at their house. Not exactly a comfortable sit for me, but I love the dogs so I usually let them stay that way until I can't take the weight anymore. Seems to be a case of big dogs don't know they are big - small dogs don't know they are small. :)
