I got a free copy of the Merck Veterinary Handbook at the Eukanuba on Friday. I haven't had a chance to really go through it but it looks like a nice reference.

@GenJMar: Cody snores more quietly but then recently at 2 am (of course) woke me up doing a full throated yodel. Since he almost never makes noise this startled me out of bed an into the living room where he was asleep. He was just finishing his yodel, blinked his eyes a couple of times and curled back up and went to sleep. That is so funny.

@Nemo: But say they growl at someone else but not you in the same situation. Should you physically move them then? I would say that down the road it could turn into a problem. Seems like asking would be the way to go in almost all situations. Or even if your dog has never shown any signs of issues like this, if you consistently move them versus ask them to move, I wonder if you are setting yourself up to creat this type of negative behavior in the future (dependent on the dog of course) as they get tired of you moving them around. If Tillo would growl to a person, I wouldn't physically move him either.. But I'm lucky that he already knows that when I say he has to go, he really has to go.. and he listens to that very well.. I never made it 'normal' for him to use my couch and bed.. It's not his, so he doesn't need to protect it either. If he thinks I'm sitting too close, he goes to his own bed on the ground.. He's laying there know as well.. Lycia is laying next to me.. I wouldn't just move a dog around.. I think a dog will get tired of it.. I do pet the dogs when they are sleeping or I lay next to them.. But Tillo likes cuddles when he sleeps.. so I'm lucky with that too :) It's not all that 'perfect'.. Tillo did growl to my mom when she tried to get him out of the garbage…...... Of course she couldn't call him away and she couldn't let him eat the garbage either... I told her to throw water over him if it would ever happen again.. Of course she also made sure Tillo can't get into the garbage :)

@Loki_Freya: Hehe, I think they would probably be unwinding the mummies (just like they do with toilet paper), chewing on bones, running B500 loops in the hallways, and then taking well deserved naps in the beds on display in the period rooms… ;-) I wish I could draw, because I can so see these as cartooned illustrations in my head. This would make such a cute story book, or coloring book. -Nicole

It depends on how they have to be removed. In crate would be the safest way for both humans and dogs, but some people have the crates in hard-to-reach areas and can only access the doors to the crates. They may have the crates secured to the wall or floor or even to each other. Let's talk about fire, since that is what I know. How or whether to remove an animal depends on where the fire started and what condition that area will be in if you have to carry your tools, hose and a dog crate through it, all while wearing turnouts and an air tank. If there is a window, an animal can be passed through to other personnel, but is the crate too big to fit through it? The dog will have to come out of the crate in that instance. Leaving the animal in the crate and carrying the crate out is safest also because dogs bite when they are upset or afraid, they run away and hide in comfort spots where we might not be able to find or reach them…they are unpredictable in situations like that. However, once outside in the crate and the animal needs medical care, how difficult will it be for rescuers to get hands on the animal? Firefighters do their best to rescue animals and having easy access is a great way to assist them doing this. That said, though, human life and safety must take precedent regardless of the screaming pet owner outside.

I would go and see the vet asap. And if you wash him I would first try pure water, no shampoo. If he has a contact allergic reaction, you need to get off whatever it is off his body. This would be done by clear water….. Vomit yellow liquid with little foam seems to be "empty stomach" to me. Sh*** like this always happens on a weekend! Fingers are crossed!

@-Clar|Emm|Kai-: What we find hysterical and gross at the same time is how he scratches himself with his hind paw, sniffs it and then begins to clean and chew his nails…cute...weird...funny...B's are the best! My B does this quite frequently. He also does it with his dew claws when he's scratching his face. I find it funny. :D

@SyberSade: Thank you Dan (Nobarkus) and Ivoss! You Basenji Forum people come through for me once again! When I get back home (Mesa, AZ) I'll hit the bookstore with my list of recommendations and see what I can find. (I'm flying to Sacramento this weekend to see my son play in his last college football home game….....go UC Davis Aggies!! :D ) @lvoss: Go Aggies! I live in Woodland and am a UCD alum. We will be just down the road in Dixon lure coursing the dogs. FYI Ivoss….........UCDavis won the game I went to see son #2 play in! BUT, last weekend UCD lost to Sac State in the Causeway Classic......which made son #1 really happy because he is in a masters program there. But UCDavis had a great season. I think the guys are pretty happy about it (even though they would've liked to beat the Hornets!). Hope you and your "kids" had a great time at the lure cousing..........I was SO tempted to sneak away and run over to Dixon to check it out..........but couldn't bring myself to leave my boys since I rarely see them anymore. ;)

I would think they are extra interested in the smell because it is so foreign to them. So they keep sniffing it in hopes to identify it.

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea…shepherds have a predisposition to hip problems. If they grow too fast, it exacerbates the problem. Also, depending on the Basenji line your pup has, it may be a slow-maturing line. In that case, they aren't supposed to grow too fast. Let's see what the experts have to say about it...you might consider direct messaging Tanza or Khanis.
