Basenjis For Sale or Wanted

Walking is weather dependent. When I lived in North Bay there were days that a walk was simply not possible, due to cold or storms. I had Lady for seven years before I got Tamu for company, and she did fine on her own. She got lots of attention from me, walks when we could, and I taught her a lot of behaviours. She enjoyed the run of the house and seldom got into any trouble beyond ripping up tissues if she could find them. Of course, she had her moments, like when she raced into the living room where we were entertaining guests, and deposited a used tampon for everyone to admire!

@buzz-carmenator I have sent everyone who mailed me a list of Breed Clubs in the UK with their secretaries email addresses and also that of the Basenji Rescue co-ordinator. BUT - people who want a puppy are advised to read a great deal up about them, including the fact that, in the Northern Hemisphere, at least 95% of litters are born November / December ish. So puppies are unlikely to be available until late February next year at the earliest. Basenji ladies are once-a-year girls, coming into season September / October ish for the most part. Several of the people I have referred to individual breeders have already visited with them and, if considered suitable, have been put on lists for the next litter. However some people have decided that, on closer inspection, a Basenji is not for them and others have visits pending. Have a good read of all the articles, including the Zande Put-Off on my website (see signature block) and then email me privately.

Thanks for the feedback. I will be starting my search with suggested breeders in VA first but am totally open to looking anywhere east of the Mississippi. I don't mind a drive and prefer to meet the breeder, dogs and see environment dogs have been raised in. I hope the breeder would want to meet me to confirm their screening decision to entrust me with the lifetime care of one of their dogs. As for looking outside of the US, I don't see that as an option for me at this time. Canada border restrictions have been extended and quite frankly I don't see that changing considering the rapidly increasing case numbers in the US. Having been stationed Korea and Germany, I have flown with my dogs before. Even under the best conditions, it is stressful on a dog. Ground temperature restrictions, flight delays or cancellations, layovers, switching planes.....I was there in case a problem were to arise. Under the right conditions and circumstances, I could see flying a pup/dog unaccompanied cargo on a short direct flight but that would be because the breeder and I had a longstanding relationship.

@venserro - Please be sure to check out pedigrees and also health testing, you should always check that out for yourself... I always refer anyone interested in Basenjis, including my own breed to Ofa.org to review DNA testing... you can look for responsible breeders at www.basenji.org and you would be better looking at the Pacific Northwest...pleaseask for references and for sure health testing. +

Thank you so much but for the last 6 months yes, six months I have not gotten a response from them and those pictures are 2 years old of that sweet pair. That is why we drove to Texas to adopt Enzo our current basenji. We like to adopt older dogs and would love to have another older pup since no one seems to want them. Thank you again. I’m trying pet finder. We are so lucky in Colorado that most of our shelters have a high adoption rate.

The only place I know in the UK that actually requests copies of health certificates from breeders is www.champdogs.co.uk I am sure if there are other sites and or places someone will be quick to correct me, but this is the only one I know. Hope that helps.

I would never sell a Basenji puppy as a potential Christmas Present ! (and I don't know any responsibile breeders who would either) Presents often get the wrapping torn off and are then discarded - how about waiting until after the festive season when things have calmed down and you have time to cope with the exigencies of a new puppy ? Tanza's idea of giving a photo might work but a live puppy under foot on Christmas Day, among all the relatives and parcels - No.

I would say that if one had planned to get a pup before this all occurred, then perhaps it would be good timing, as it would give one the opportunity of spending more time with the pup in the crucial early days. Of course things will change and the routine will be different, but there are ways to ease into the new schedule so it isn't an abrupt shift from always being there to suddenly being absent.

Hello, go to www.basenji.org and search for breeders... by state and there are some from Canada... you are most likely looking at possible breedings for fall/winter of 2020. Note however it is IMPORTANT that you go to a responsible breeder so registration papers are important as many BYB's use other types of registrations that are not registered by AKC or the Canadian Kennel club and you need to follow up on health testing youself... if they are doing responsible health testing before breeding the results are public at www.ofa.org. @jodymp another post you sent stated you were in Yorkshire... so, are you looking for a pup in Europe? Do you have a specific region, or a distance range where you are focusing your search?

Try. contacting Cindy Griswold at http://flyn-hi-hounds.com. She's really near Austin, and I'm 99% sure she doesn't have any puppies, but if there was a reputable breeder near you with puppies she would likely know about that.
