Laika has had very little traing. We use a Flexy for walking right now. I would like to get her trained on a short leash later, so we could take her out in public. Is it possible?? Suni would try to attack any dog.

I hope all the puppies from these litters are tested for fanconi.
It would give the owners so much inforamtion they don't have now.

Right on! My Basenji is a mix breed as well, and I also adopted him. He is an absolute handful, but one of the best parts of my day is when I get home and see how he excited he is that dads home. And yeah… as far as chew toys, I have not found a single one that he can't destroy in less than 5 minutes. The best toy I've gotten him was a coil of rope that I tied into knots. lol, be prepared to pick up little pieces of his victims every day.

I have three bs too! And I'm just across the bridge in Jersey! Mine are 6,5,&2.5. Welcome! 🙂

Sharron, my daughter told me about a Basenji rescue club in Seattle and my wife and I have thought that once Salem is gone and if we decide to dedicate ourselves to another dog, we would like to get one from a rescue club.

Our first Basenji, Tanna was bought from a breeder named Charlotta Jones who was a very active member of the Evergreen Basenji club and introduced us to showing through them. Nice to know the club is still going strong.

Yes, I would love to adopt him myself… but I am a first-time dog owner, and I am a little intimidated by the reputation of the Basenji --even though in this case he is 1/2 Pug which has an "easier" reputation.

Are they sure he is a basenji mix or are they just guessing based on the curly tail and erect ears? He looks more like a Chi mix to me. I just found out on Monday the new "hybrid craze" is the "chug" a Chi x Pug.

One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail.

Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!
