Sharron, my daughter told me about a Basenji rescue club in Seattle and my wife and I have thought that once Salem is gone and if we decide to dedicate ourselves to another dog, we would like to get one from a rescue club. Our first Basenji, Tanna was bought from a breeder named Charlotta Jones who was a very active member of the Evergreen Basenji club and introduced us to showing through them. Nice to know the club is still going strong.

Welcome to you and kudos for rescuing your dog. Whatever breed she is, she is yours to love and enjoy.

@longshot: Yes, I would love to adopt him myself… but I am a first-time dog owner, and I am a little intimidated by the reputation of the Basenji --even though in this case he is 1/2 Pug which has an "easier" reputation. Are they sure he is a basenji mix or are they just guessing based on the curly tail and erect ears? He looks more like a Chi mix to me. I just found out on Monday the new "hybrid craze" is the "chug" a Chi x Pug. http://www.flickr.com/photos/troynielsen/2236562915/

I look forward to your pictures. I'm a technophobe too - I keep telling myself I can do it but so far haven't posted any. One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail. Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!

Thank you! I will do it. The litter of 2007 are my dog's mum's first litter. @tanza: Hello and Welcome. It would be great if you or her breeder could send the litter/pedigree information to Sally Wallis for her pedigree website at http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/search.html In looking I didn't find your girl. I did find a litter from 2007, are they related to that litter?

Also if you contact the breeders in the PNW listed on the BCOA site that LVOSS posted some may have puppies/juveniles/adults available. You can also find contact info for basenji fanciers on the Willamette Valley Basenji Club site http://www.basenji-club.com and Evergreen Basenji Club site http://www.evergreenbasenjiclub.org/ Send the folks an email or give them a call to check availability! I wish you luck on your journey to find another basenji companion

Yes. It seems crate training is super important as safety to the dog. As to B escaping, I am not too worried as at my house there is a inner court yard that has another door leading up to my front door. Usually when people ring the door bell, they ring the outside bell. I though have to go through 2 doors, which is great especially if the dog escapes from one door, he is stopped at the other ;) That portion I am pretty confident.

When I 1st got Kirabo, I had named her Hollie. A few mths later my wife told me every time I had a seizure, she would go crazy & wouldn't leave my side. Then 1 night I had a dream & God told me to name her Kirabo which means " a gift from God". She truly is God sent. Kirabo stays by my side & is constantly keeping her eyes on me, always observant of every-thing I do.
