Sorry if we sound so disagreeable … but it is so important that the health of our breed is #1 on everyones list and that everyone understands and does as much health testing as possible before breeding... especially since we have genetic problems that we can't test for, the family tree becomes our only way of knowing what we might expect... and it is only fair to people thinking about getting a Basenjis as a family companion that they know what they might expect..... Everyone should visit the BCOA Health site (www.basenjihealth.org) and learn what is being done to find genetic testing and what everyone can do to help

@dash: Understandable. There is a cute thread on here about Basenji rules. It would be a good read for you. Are you partial to a color ? I'm a big fan of the tricolor, but they're all beautiful so the color isn't really an issue for me.

Hi all, I googled the movie title and found the story of the dog in the movie from the magazine The Basenji's article. So fascinating, and I'm glad that My Lady stayed with Brandon de Wilde and lived a good life after the movie! Here is the link: http://jssmith.home.mindspring.com/page58.html

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will find that owning a B is a wonderful experience, at many and I do mean many times challenging but very rewading too. At times and I mean many times you will probably feel like your B owns you. Have fun and ejoy your new family member. One word of advise, start some training immediatly. I love my B but wow lots of work. Hope to see some pics soon.

Hello and welcome. Maggie looks basenji to me too. I agree with what someone else wrote about the "deer legs." She is gorgeous and very lucky to have you in her life.

Woah! I can't begin to tell you the noises I hear behind me. The two are going at it . . . because ? ? ? ? They must need each other to remind them that they are dogs. (I think). Zuri is very cute!

I live near the mountains in Colorado. There are some great trails with open space all around to let thme run around. Gosh I'm so jealous!! We don't have any plasce we could let our pooches loose. I would love a big open space sans any basenji prey :) that way they'll come back

Hello and welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see pics of Dash, and the rest of the family!!! I do home visits for BRAT. Would love to foster one, but space will not allow it at this time.
