Ziki is actually younger than Lema and Mopaya so all three were old enough to be presented. One reason dogs may not be presented as soon as they are old enough is that the owners may not have been in a position to get all of the evaluations completed on time. It can be very time consuming to find available evaluators and if they are not near you, it can be expensive to travel to them.

They're lovely puppies - I love to see them when their noses are just getting colour. I think the tri girl looks very promising - have you a favourite?

What an awful ordeal for Della - you were so right to take her immediately to the clinic. Hope she continues to do well.

Not seen this article three years ago last Oct we had to have blood for our cat. Cat's have blood types some what like people blood was not cheap. We tell him he got trash can kitty blood because after blood he wanted to eat table food never like that before. We also learned about blood when our akita was sick one was plasma and I do recall name of the other but it was really only good for 24 hours. Rita Jean

@Kananga: I like the cheap toothbrush idea. The toothbrush i'm using on Kananga currently (canine toothbrush) is really starting to look beat up. The pet store will charge you too much for a tooth brush. It's basically the same soft brush you can get at a department store.

4 sounds like a very manageable number.. I will keep my fingers crossed that they will come out in colors wished/hoped for. Either way they will be absolutely adorable, I am sure of that.

IMHO, any breeder that I was thinking about that let their dogs end up in rescue instead of taking them back would be a breeder I would want to avoid. Add to it that the website doesn't list any health testing (I don't know a responsible breeder that doesn't list or link to their health testing). And $1200 is crazy high IMO, I didn't pay that last year when I got my pup from a responsible breeder that does full health testing. As well, my pup's breeder doesn't charge any different between show potential & pet pups. I know you have been thinking about a pup since the summer, did you have no luck with any BCOA breeders. Maybe not in Georgia, but what about the Carolinas, Virginia, Florida. You might need to cast your net just a little wider. I don't have my BCOA roster (has more people listed than what is on the BCOA website) handy, but when I get home this evening, I can list some breeders in surrounding states that you could contact and check with to see if they are having litters. Also, did you check w/Robin @ Sherwood to see if she knew of any breeders having litters that might have a r/w pup. I will say that normally by now, the waiting lists are full, but you never know if there might be a cancellation.

@irena: If the brindle female carrie a tri gene, there could be a trindle, couldnt be? Yes, if the brindle carries the Tri recessive gene, then they can have trindles. Also because the sire is a Tri, the pups will have the Tri gene

Wanda is planning two litters, they (the bitches) were just bred or are being bred now, so she will be expecting maybe end of December, more likely January.

They are both very pretty girls, and that is a very nice "studly" photo of Buana!

I have to agree with Janneke. There are some sport mixes that are very responsibly bred. Most often these dogs are bred for Flyball, and involve a herding breed mixed with a terrier. The border-staffy mixes mix the drive of the Staffy with the intelligence and trainablility of the herding dogs, but also to mitigate a bit of the herding breed sensitivity. I think a team of 4 Borderstaffys holds the flyball record right now? They are supposed to be great for what they are bred for. Super-fast, drivey, but with the "off-switch" that is missing in a lot of terriers. They supposedly breed pretty consistent, and the breeders heath test, and try to be responsible. The border-jack is also really popular in flyball and agility. They are smart, super drivey and hyper. As far as I know, neither of these mixes has been picked up by the BYB's and Puppy Mills. Neither of these mixes should go to non-sports homes. Lots of mushers mix greyhound or whippet into their northern breeds to add some speed to their teams. Or they often choose to breed mixed breed dogs that are superior lead dogs or the like. I see no problem with purpose-bred mixes, as long as their breeders are as responsible with their planning and placements as we would expect from any responsible purebred breeder.

It's a step in the right direction. This is a lawmaking function that should be reserved to the states individually, according to the 10th Amendment anyway. Dogs are not livestock and are not going to be used for food. Therefore, USDA does not really have a stake in regulating them. USDA garners its power under the "Regulate Commerce" clause of the Constitution's Preamble, a section that was never intended to carry the weight of law. (See Federalists Paper #41.)

Also, as they are so cat like, folks don't understand their not "listening". So the corrections get harsher and harsher. Sigh. Education is the key for folks…until they do, we will have many dogs in the wrong homes.
