    • RE: Looking for a breeder near SW Wisconsin

      lvoss:

      I have checked BCOSW, but only 3 breeders are listed in Wisconsin. I have emailed all of them, but not heard anything back from them.

      One of the same breeders is the only one listed on the BCOA site as well. Again, I've heard nothing back from her 😞 I must live in a horrible place for Basenjis…

    • Dudley :-(

      Only 11 months old. He pulled an escape act, as he has done before. This time he decided he would ignore me completely and see if he could catch a passing semi. Like most things he decided he was going to do, he did it. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that this was not a giant bunny.

      Seeing something like this happen and knowing there's nothing you can do to stop it is a horrible experience.

      The very odd thing is that I'm not a big picture taker. I hadn't directly taken a picture of Dudley since about 1 month after getting him, last May. This past Sunday, he jumped up on me while I was watching football on the couch and decided it was time to wrestle. He was being so crazy that I couldn't help but quickly grab my phone and snap a picture as shown above. Just a hair over one hour later, he would be gone. That picture now means more to me that I ever would have imagined at the time of taking it.

      Yes, I have filled out the application, but for my area, there are currently no rescues available. Which, from the standpoint of the breed is a very good thing!

    • Looking for a breeder near SW Wisconsin

      We recently lost our Basenji to a terrible accident, and would like to fille the void a small bit this spring with a new puppy. Unfortunately, the only breeder I can find near me in Wisconsin and surrounding areas is Hestekin (which is actually where I got my first Basenji before I was educated). Can someone please help? I'm willing to travel 2-3 hours if needed.

      If I posted Pedigress of the parents, would anyone be able to look it over and tell me anything I should be concerned about?

      @tanza:

      It will be a bit of a trial then… and really will require constant supervision to get him potty trained.... along with taking him out all the time... after everything or in the middle of everything.... After eating, after sleeping, before sleeping (and for after sleeping/napping, I suggest you carry him out and not give him the chance to have an accident)... during play, as they get wound up and sometimes forget.

      Hopefully you have verified that at least one parent was Fanconi tested Clear on the OFA site... and it would not be a bad idea to have him DNA with the cheek swab for your own piece of mind. Also, how is his eye(s)?

      Unfortunately, only one parent is on the OFFA sight. Where/How would I go about the DNA testing? Any idea on cost?

      That is a bit of a surprise that he is not house trained already at 16 wks? Was he kept in a kennel situation?

      For the most part, yes, he was. He got to come in and play with the other dogs daily (his temperament is GREAT), but he's not trained, yet.

      @Nemo:

      Trust me, it gets easier. Accident free…no, but easier. You just have to watch him a lot initially. Hope you have oodles of toys. Zoni was just crazy for them and that was the easiest way to keep her entertained and non-destructive.

      He's gonna be incredibly picky about his toys. We got him 5 different ones, to begin with. He ignores all of them, except for one. Now, little rawhide bones? That's a whole 'nother story…..

      @KitKat:

      Welcome and where in Wi are you. I am near Madison.

      I'm actually about 45 miles to the west of Madison.

      The new puppy is a hand full. Housetraining is going to be incredibly stressful, I can tell that already….
