Describing something in words when the language is not applied consistently and universally is always a problem – it's the same in any descriptive science. I can appreciate the difficulty of being a good judge.

Thanks everyone who has shared their knowledge and opinions on the matter! I got all the tests done, just waiting for the results from the OFA. Say all the results are good/clear/negative/etc. I already spoke to a couple breeders, so I have a couple of potential studs picked out. What are some of the other steps involved, i.e. registering the litter, etc.?

Thanks for all of the replies. I am going to find a breeder that is listed on one of these sites. I didn't think that this person was reputable since there was hardly any information listed on the puppies.

@Lauma: Do you have any information on Itzyu Basenjis in VA? My mother and brother are adopting a "Golden Opportunity" dog from them next month. Can't go wrong with a Basenji from Itzyu Basenjis…. my opinion is go for it..... and they will get a great "golden opportunity" dog from them!

Our Shiba is getting her winter coat but not our Basenji. I wonder if we can cause it when we run our air in the house. Warm when they go out and cool or cold when they come in. Rita Jean

I have been just hearing from somebody who collected informations around this subject due to a plan of artificial insemination. And the consulted Vet said that they were not precis enough for this project. Fopaws is great. I actually bred to one of their boys and since then we have become extended family. They are wonderful people with wonderful dogs!

@Terry: Buana - have you considered collecting Chafuko and using the chilled semen AI? That way neither dog would have to undergo the stress of travel. Terry We never considered that, I will get information about that (for this time it's too late but for a next time) I'ts always good to know.

If all you can do at first for a while is the licking and light chewing then fine. Move it around in the mouth slightly as that's going on. Just slightly.
