Here's a second thought … what if we (the forum) put together a little checklist or short blurb for people who are considering a basenji or who just acquired one. This can list all the important things to consider (was the dog tested for fanconi, how to test your dog for fanconi, personality issues, etc.) without "the attitude" that sometimes comes across in postings to new introductions. This "Considering a basenji?/For the new owner" could go right at the top of the forum so when people surf into the site it would be right there - they wouldn't even have to scroll down to see topics - right there at the top.

Good Idea, but we have tons of sticky notes already that people never read. If there was a way to put it on the Forum that would drive people to "must read"… that would be great

I'm sorry for your loss. I did not mean to seem overly harsh, but I am glad you found the article eye-opening.
I am very sad that you lost your boy so young.
Please consider giving a homeless dog a second chance, or buy only from responsible breeders for a pup.

I actually saw Tiger when he was in quarantine here all those years ago. Politics in the breed caused Veronica to send him to Michael Hughes Hall in Rhodesia. There are quite a few descendants here from the litter he sired but the majority of his puppies mouths were not good so VTW told me. I assume that this has showed up in his descendants from time to time.

Azenda Which (Margaret Christy Davis) was a fairly early descendant and the Zizunga (Irene Terry) line was partially based on this bitch. Jethard Cidevant who was a Crufts Supreme Champion also carries a line back to Tiger. Many of these people here who had such descendants were ironically some of the main movers opposing the acceptance of Brindle into our KC Standard!!!! Isn't it ironic?!

There is no documented cases of blue or cream Basenjis having alopecia. That said, while these people do DNA test for Fanconi now they do no other health testing and the exact lineage of their dogs cannot be traced. These people are not bad people per se but they are not very knowledgable about the breed. They do breed multiple breeds solely for profit.

Oh no :D, we already have 4 Bs at home and I think it is enough for this time. But I'm planning to keep one from upcoming litters :).
But of course I would love to keep one of them :rolleyes::D.

Adults are great, Masai and Buju are still in "puppy area". Masai takes care of puppies so carefully and his behaviour often looks like HE gave birth to puppies, not Abanda :rolleyes::D.

Oooh, I see what you mean. I didn't look at the front facing pic. I had noticed the feet as well. But, you do have temperment, so at least that's one thing!

Boxers are so funny. They don't wag their tail. They wag their whole rear end hehe.

The pups really love that ramp. I put a cat sized tunnel in there with them but instead of going through it they played "king of the mountain" and all jumped on top of it lol. These are the bounciest puppies. They are like little kangaroos hopping all the time. It's cute until you are sitting on the floor with them and one of them tries to pierce your nose. Ouch!
