I was thinking about it, and it may not be the actual noise that bothers him. The fireworks in July didn't bother him, and neither did the parade (firetruck sirens, marching bands, and all) that recently went by our house. It may be the vibrations. We are close enough to the base that our house actually shakes enough to knock the pictures and stuff off of the walls (we actually quit hanging photos on our walls because we had replaced so many frames). I'm still going to try some of the suggestions and will definitely figure out a new schedule for him. Thanks again.

Made my eyes well up. I promise my dogs they will never suffer. When I had to put my 16 year old, Congo, down. I did it with a smile and held him and told him he would have a young body again and that there were lots of bunnies to chase in "puppy heaven". I know people who shouldn't own any animals, ever. Luckily, I am not one of them. I have come to the realization that I will always own dogs. They are just who I am and I am lonely without them. Thanks for the "10 Commandments". They are true.

My dogs do this all the time. Well, Lexi does anyway- she's the only one who can fit/balance on the back of the sofa. ;) ha! And she'll tap your head in a heartbeat if there's something you have that she wants! lol

I have a very good friend at work who lives somewhat in the country and has lots of what she calls "barn cats" around her. When she first came to work at my office she had 2 cats, hers and her mother's, who had come to live with her, since then she has "adopted" 7 more from her yard. She started feeling sorry for them and started putting food out there for them. Her husband has finally said "no more". She is a "good" cat owner as she has spayed/neutered each cat she has adopted and keeps them inside. Now she has become involved in rescue of the rest. If she thinks it doesn't really have a home she will try to catch it, take it to the vet for a check and spaying/neutering, try to get it socialized with humans and other cats, then try to get it adopted out. She does all this with a little bit of help from a rescue organization and a break on price from her vet but she is still out of pocket quite a bit and I respect her all the more for her commitment to the betterment of the lives of these forgotten animals.:) We all wish there were more responsible cat, and dog owners, for that matter, out there like her.

My son is a large boy not due to not walking just large like my uncle. Eli was 13 end of July and his weight is 130 lbs or so and 10 men's shoe to 10 1/2 and he is 5'6. Eli big boy but I have seen some kids that walking really was needed every day. That is my baby. Rita Jean

The old adage - "A tired Basenji is a good Basenji" - comes to mind. :) Last thing we do at night before turning in is either walk ours or take her to the park. Then she gets a chew to keep her busy while we're getting ready for bed, then everyone's under the covers (she burrows). Even then, there are nights…especially if the cat is out and about being adventurous. You have my sympathy... :)

Oh how exciting basenjis and boxers are the best combo IMO there is no better pair to have they complement each other perfectly. I have two males (well 3 including the foster), one intact and the other 2 are not and see no problems; once in a awhile the basenjis (younger of the two) challenges the boxer and he just gives him a "you're kidding me right" look.

Very nice! I love seeing these kinds of photos! This past weekend I was running with a friend, and we happened to be running right where they were holding a race. The race was called the Race for Congo Women or something, and I was joking that they needed a bunch of basenjis there.

Thanks for all your help! As I mentioned previously, it was the trainer that said there may be some basenji in this dog. We had never heard of basenjis, so it's been interesting to learn more about them, whether or not she has any in her. Thanks again for your input!

@agilebasenji: You really, really do not want to bring a puppy home that is younger than 8 weeks old. In many states it is illegal AND the puppy misses out on learning valuble puppy skills, most importantly bite inhibition. Many breeders even suggest taking a new puppy home around 10 weeks. This is SO TRUE!!! 7 wks is way to young to be bring home a puppy and taking it from his/her littermates…. I don't let puppies go till they are 10wks... And please do not just take someone's word for it that there is no Fanconi.... please check it out for yourself. This is not to say that people are not honest.. but as they always say "Buyer Beware".... it is your responsibility to verify. Also were there any other health tests done? As Kathy pointed out, most of the responsible breeders all know each other... so I would have to ask the same thing? Who has 7wk puppies? I have not heard of a litter.....

Hi Elena, my parents have had 3 Papillons and all have been and one still is a great dog, so dont worry too much, i'm sur the little one will calm down eventualy :) They are very intelligent and highly trainable, Reuben has easily learned basic commands and my dad is teaching him agility at home. He is on a waiting list to go to proper agility classes as he thrives on it. He was very lively as a pup but calmed down as he got older , he is two now and a very good dog.
