Who's that behind me?

Basenji Talk
  • Last night I was sitting on the couch watching TV and eating a few pretzels. All of a sudden I feel this paw on my shoulder :) tap tap tap. I ignored it but soon felt a heavier paw on my shoulder and someone tugging at my hair . I carefully looked over behind me, and here's Gossy half-standing trying to daintily tap me. When she saw me looking she got this weird look on her face and then tried to tap at my mouth :). She can be such a clown sometimes - a dainty clown.

  • Hah. Kananga does the same, especially when people are over. He'll be standing behind the couch with his paws on top.

Aren't all Basenjis clowns at times? That's what makes them so entertaining to us (and makes up for the times they drive us insane). :D

  • Maybe she fancied a Pretzel :D

  • All mine have climbed up and lay on the top of the couch especially since it's in front of the living room window facing the front yard. Now Buddy likes to chase flies around and they fly to the front window where jumps up and tries to jump around and balance on top while nipping at the fly. One day I heard "Boom"! Looked in the living room and no Buddy and the curtains were moving around. Seems he fell off and landed behind trying to get out.

  • It's the old story pick-a-boo I see you and what are you eating??

  • I have read somewhere that Basenjis like to be up high.
Benjis favourite place was on the back of the settee. It used to often be in the sun and also he could watch what was going on. Trouble was if i placed the settee too near to the window he stepped onto the sill and wiped his nose all over.

Ha, ha, ha…I bet you are right! :D:D If it were my girl Ruby, she'd be tapping with one paw, wait until I turn around and reaching in the bag of pretzels with another paw. ;)

  • :D Ooohhh I love those silly B's….

Did she finally got a pretzel?

  • My dogs do this all the time. Well, Lexi does anyway- she's the only one who can fit/balance on the back of the sofa. ;) ha! And she'll tap your head in a heartbeat if there's something you have that she wants! lol

Ladybasenji, where are you in Quebec? Montreal? We have a place in Gatineau (Aylmer sector) and one of my dogs might even be related to yours. You're experiences with your girl remind me so much of my first basenji, about 20 years ago–it gets easier, I swear! Let me know if you'd like help with Lady--they're nothing like labs and will never be "obedient" but there are tricks for training them : D

You can find a lot of puppy collars at thrift shops for pretty cheap - would never pay full price for one. I'm getting mine at 14 weeks and was told that 8-12 inches was what was being used - then at 4- 6 months graduate to 10-14 inch collar.

This is the main problem right now, I suppose. The civil war's in the Republik of Kongo. I have been talking to a owner of Avongara Basenjis, who's daughter has been in Afrika with the last big expedition. And she had the same thoughts than I have: we thought, that if there are some Basenjis left (the ones which have not landed in the cooking pans), they are spread all over the forrest regions. Most of the human inhabitants of this region have left their houses for the next bigger city to find a little security and help there…. it is absolutely horrible, what mus go on there. But similar actions in other parts of Africa (Mali and Burkina Faso are always at the border of war like actions) plus in lots of these areas there are now many refugees from other areas which make the problems not easier for the habitants....http://www.azawakh.com/azawakhfriends/english/index.html Regards, Esther

I think I saw Sophie on a b video website and I was so glad that someone else's B made that noise I showed it to my husband and daughter. Thanks for posting that video because as a new B owner we thought we had some kind of devel dog!!! She does it the most to our oldest dog Josie. There are nights she even does it from under our covers in bed when she hears Josie moving out in the living room. Too Funny!!!!
