One thing about the AF's and raising litters…. from what I know and have heard over and over, one of the most important things is early socialization with the outside world..... Early and often....

Just seeing this, not sure how I missed it but I am so sorry. Yes, blessed with nearly 16 yrs… but that's more years to leave a bigger hole in your heart.

In your position, where you really have to take her out a lot, I understand. And I hope her comfort continues. My point was it is situational need, not dog need to be that social. :) I have a slim chance of that having worked with my current 2, but with my incredibly dog aggressive first one, I'd have been out in a basket muzzle and warning everyone to keep their dogs away.

My Rue is pretty perfect. She is mixed with something (I don't know what) so she doesn't look like a real B… and she isn't interested in anything in our house (chewing wise), doesn't bolt out the door, and licks like CRAZY! She also doesn't really like to play with other dogs at the dog park, she just smells them, occasionally chases them, then comes back and lays down by me (EXERCISE DANG IT!). The only normal B behaviors that I see in her are the little noises that she makes (she makes a lot of them for different reasons) and her BAROOOOOOO (which is fitting because we named her Rue before we even knew she was a Basenji) and it seems like she is stubborn about sitting. It's like she is saying, "yeah I know you want me to sit, but first I'm gonna spin around in a circle. Then maybe I'll sit if I feel like it." Haha! She is a character!

old thread but posting up :) we take ours camping and she loves it of course :) biggest hassle is the whining and crying and hating the ride to the camp areas ! we use a cable over a leash but have a leash for walks and have her in a harness all but at night when she sleeps we tent camp so we picked her up a fuzzy jacket to wear at night and we run a small tent heater also so she stays nice and warm lots of fleece blankets to cuddle up in she is sleeping in a soft crate ? and we keep thinking boy she is going to chew through that some night and want to join us ! hahaha reason we dont let her sleep with us camping is she has a thing for down and feathers and we all have down bags ! so we joke about waking up to a tent full of feathers if she did sleep with us ! we have watched her sit and pull feathers out of some feather pillows we have ! during the day we have a dog bed that folds and she seems to prefer sleeping in the dirt over the bed but with the needles this last trip she preferred the bed :) she also does love laying in the hammocks with us when we take a nap ! [image: 5_13_02.jpg] you can see the red dog crate tucked in the left side near our inside tent so she is right next to us when sleeping and inside the main tent which of course we think why she is OK with it since she is so close to us :) [image: 2013-05-25_(11-03-14).jpg] laying on the rocks at the lake :) [image: 2013-05-26_(14-49-17).jpg] we do some groups camping with a homeschool group also where she is a hit with all the kids :) and she loves loves loves the attention and is the most gentle girl with all of them :) [image: 2013-05-25_(14-00-36).jpg]

My wife and adopted a 7 year old guy from BRAT this past December and he does the same thing. He's a retired puppy mill stud that never learned how to climb stairs until he was "freed." If he gets a running start, he can leap a step or two, but if he walks up to steps, he goes up backwards, just like in the video. He also has a phobia with certain door thresholds. But don't worry. He's a super fun little guy who just has a few little quirks. He can outrun his 12 year old B-sister in the yard, but she always beats him up the stairs.

All of our Bs have loved paper products too. We regularly have toilet paper "confetti" at our house, and Jubilee will sneak napkins out of unsuspecting guests' laps at dinner! He knows we will catch him so he only goes for newbies :-)

She loves to eat parsley from my garden as well. Shes a goat in a dogs body. When I ment spoiled I ment it in a fillet mignon and lobster everyday type of way. Some ppl go a little crazy that their dog can't eat in a bowl must be a gold plate…. IF she could have it that way she would gladly take that over a bowl any day lol but that's because she thinks shes the queen of the world.

@Knipper: That's cute! Cricket does not subscribe to the slow stealthy approach. It's all about as much destruction as possible in the shortest amount of time while I'm indisposed. Everything is done in fast forward! Kalani waits until my back is turned and the second it is he gets into mischief. As soon as I look at him he freezes with the thought of either "if I don't move he can't see me" or "what, I wasn't doing anything". I'm not sure which, but it is one of them.

Update on Kobi. She is doing great om her hypoallergenic diet. Vet has weaned her off steroids and weaning her down to the lowest dose of Flagyl she can handle. 3 weeks and going strong. Has gained back her lost pound and a half. Bouncy happy and no vomiting. Keep fingers crossed. Again she tested very mild IBD so we are hoping she can live a long and healthy life on the diet and minimal meds. Thanks for everyones support.

No problems, lets me learn for future reference which is always a good thing :) Kaia is still petite. I haven't weighed her in about 2 weeks or so, she had been hovering just a smidge under 18 lbs, she may have finally gone over that now. That's why I was hoping to put off until July, wanted to make sure she had plenty of time to grow because we weren't too sure if she grows slowly or if she'll just stay petite. But I look back on her first pictures with us and wonder when she got so big!

Yes!! Bowpi loves to "box" when she gets excited. But she doesn't have much follow-through. It's adorable. I'm not quite sure what she's thinking. I take it as an expression of her excitement and desire to be involved. She usually starts boxing when our Shiba tries to roughhouse with her, or when the Shiba is roughhousing with other humans – and she inserts herself into the mix.
