Yeah, I'm kinda interested in knowing what this means, just curious: "Unfortunatly I am at a point in my life where I can't provide him with the proper care that he deserves."

I saw the photos and sent to a friend who is looking for a basenji buddy for his brindle girl. He immediately contacted the BRAT person handling him. (He has already applied to BRAT, is just waiting to see which (if any) dog he gets. That would be so cool if Max wound up here in Tampa, we don't have a trindle in our 'pack'…yet! John is a wonderful basenji owner & "dad" to his Savanna, his will be a great home for whichever boy he gets. Thanks for posting that photo! Anne in Tampa

I am so glad Foxy and Cami have such a good and loving home. The whole thing was so awful, though their former owner must miss them terribly, knowing they are loved and safe now surely be a huge comfort. Hooray for you, for rescuing 2 good girls. Anne in Tampa

Most of my shelters call basenji rescue when they get a basenji in. That is because selling a basenji to a family who hasn't a clue to what they are getting, makes the dog come back to the shelter. They know basenji rescue is a good thing. I hope someone can get him out. Maybe they can send a family who has been screened to the shelter to adopt it out directly. That would be better then the dog being left in the shelter, imo.

The shelter has a new Petfinder volunteer and Millie's pic is now up. http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=9669934 Her behavior is very basenji. The way she approaches other dogs and even her somewhat aloof with strangers attitude. Like many basenjis though the way to her heart is through her stomach and she will be your best friend after a few treats.

Good to hear you are doing well…I was concerned since you are right there. Fingers and paws crossed that you and all your loved ones will return back safely to your homes. Please keep us posted. @Terry: We were evacuated Monday via reverse 911. My husband waited until I could get home from work, all our neighbors got together and agreed we wouldn't leave until we absolutely had to. But our nephew's family got a mandatory order, so we packed up all 9 Basenjis in the motorhome (fortunately it was still at home as we got back from Nationals Sunday night) and headed to Qualcomm Stadium with about 20.000 people. I brought the girls home with me (+ one neurotic boy who was freaking about having to stay in his crate) around 11 PM, while Bob stayed with the other 4, our nephew's son and cousin with a 15 year old pit bull and a 3 month old Golden. Fortunately, they were able to come home on Tuesday afternoon. The city has done a terrific job handling half a million evacuees and their animals. The shelters and evac centers were allowing people to bring small animals in crates; large animals like horses and llamas are at several locations from the Fairgrounds to shopping center parking lots. I would try to find a vet that is interested in learning about B's or know's about B's. It took me a while to find a vet that would listen to ME and not the average shoot em up/shove it down mentality. Try a warm bath for the BM. As for the frontline and intercept they should be able to be held off. I don't use flea med-my B's don't tend to get fleas. If it's for the heart worm only wait a few days til she feels better and then give it to her if you need to use it where you are. I know here we only use it til November. If you want a basic food, as Sharon said-chicken and rice is the easiest on the tummy. You may want to make your own for the moment-boiled chicken and rice. Arlene

This is just my opinion…I like to fly dogs to their new homes if possible. Car run are ok...but I always worry about accidents, or a dog getting loose. With the plane, its a lot quicker.

They don't post the location on their web site. Karen usually sends it to you via email once she schedules a visit. You might want to call again–and send an email. And yes--Saturdays are fine. I believe any day of the week is ok because they are there working literally every day.

Sometimes as a rescue person, the kindest thing we can advice, or do, is give the dog peace of the rainbow bridge. I have had to do that in the past…thank heavens, not for years. Its never been something I have done lightly, but I have never felt it was a wrong decision. The only decision I could do to give peace to the dog...

Pat, what a nice thing to say. I really do love doing rescue… Gives me all the emotions I need in a day, anger, joy, etc. LAUGH. I hope to someday retire and haul a booth to the dog show grounds to discuss rescue with the general public. Pat, folks like yourself, who have worked so hard to get our breeds temperments sound, health sound...well, your the group that has allowed me to enjoy this dog I love so very much. Hats off to you as well! I went to a dog training class last weekend...I heard, Oh, Basenjis...only dog who ever bit me...etc. Course, these folks thought they were dealing with a DOG, and we all know that is JUST NOT SO! smile. Hugs to you all.

Imo, the difference between a nip and a bite is if the skin is broken and they draw blood. Puppies and some uneducated adult dogs nip…its not something anyone wants, but imo it can be corrected. A bite, a totally diffent issue and something that should be eval. on a case by case event.
