See that is what I am dying to hear. we just got home and he made a really worried sound when we got out in the backyard. Come to find out Luna, our Schnorkie and Otis had been "playing" with one of our younger chicks that keeps flying out of the run…needless to say he was bothered by the fact that A) the chicken was traumatized and 😎 I was mad...Thankfully the chick is not hurt severly and will be Ok with some loving inside for a few days.

-
@jengosmonkey - Manicure front, Pedicure back...LOL
-
-
@kembe - Nails need to be trimmed... LOL
-
Maybe a pawdicure!
-
Call it what you will, our Basenjis have always told us that it's cruelty. LOL

I think we have a winner! Nothing beats the BasenjiForums hive mind.

I remember yelling "Let's do the toes!" and they ran!
(the other way) -
I call it nearly impossible.
-
So funny
-
I'm going with spa day. I lay them down on a pillow in my lap, play some soft music and take my time...my boy will nearly fall asleep, my girl agrees that its still cruel and unusual basenji torture...
-
Binti used to hate it, now she lies against me and we do "paw"dicures at the ratio of one paw completed, one high value treat. She is focused on getting the treat, plus she knows now that the grinder won't hurt her-I don't let it grind very much without a break for the nail to cool off from the friction. So 4 paws, 4 trats, plus and "we're all finished-Good girl" treat!!!
-
@nancyss - I do the same, treat after each paw.... and when all done.... have always done all of my Basenjis that way. I start my litter pups the same... just takes a minutes when 4wks old. Almost like one and done!
-
@tanza It isn't easy to convince them that this is THEIR idea, but we keep trying! LOL!!!
-
@nancyss - There is always one in every crowd.....right now my Franie hates having her nails done... it is a chore to catch her (how she knows I am going to do nails is beyond me, but she does, same with teeth brushing).... but once settled in my lap she puts up with it.... my C-Me will willing come to have hers done!

With Kito I have gone back to Resco clippers - he just lies in my arms and accepts it ! Its quick and easy. Mku gets the dremel.
-
Lick pad smeared with banana helps a lot. Distracted long enough to get used to it. Got all four paws clipped. Wife helps hold the lick pad vertically (stuck to a plate) as he lays on side. First had to train with high value treats to lay on side. Eventually won't need the pad.
-
@sanjibasenji Such contortions ! I sit with the dog sitting on my lap, firmly tucked under one arm, and snip or dremel away. The banana (or whatever 'special') comes when all the dogs are done.

Wish that was possible with a 15 week old...

But my Kito is only 18 weeks now and I have been doing his nails like that since he arrived - ten weeks ago !
It is indeed possible - I have been doing puppies and adults that way for almost 40 years. What are you using ? Of course for the moment, nail scissors probably work but they won't for long !
Resco 'guillotine' style clippers are best in my book because they don't crush the nails - but easiest of all is a dremel from the hardware store. It very quick and efficient.
