We had to say goodbye to our 17 year old beautiful tri-color basenji last night. She was suffering terribly from dementia. I held as she drifted off from the meds at our vet’s office. She is now running free chafing squirrels with no cars anywhere. We love you Toby. Always in our hearts.

So sorry for your loss. It's never easy to let them go, but if you care for them you know when it's time. I've walked the road you are on and it never gets easier.

Most difficult thing I have ever done in my life was to set my beloved tri Ella free at age 14.5. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I know the pain you’re going through. Every dog owner does. Putting my Riley down after 15 years was brutal.
They say dogs gives us many of the BEST days of our lives and one of the WORST. My sincere condolences.

We never get to share our lives long enough with these incredible animals - you have been luckier than most ! 17 is a long long time to have enjoyed her company. I am so sorry -

My brother had a brindle Basenji he had to put down @ the age of 17 1/2 who also had dementia - he said the dog would get up @ night and walk into walls and scream. It was very sad and it was a very painful decision for him to let him go. His basenji Kahn was a relative of my Basenji Kembe - they shared the same great- grandmother but his basenji came from California and mine came from Connecticut.

So sorry for your loss. We love our furbabies so much and we want them to live forever, but that's just not in the cards. My vet said that the decision we have to make is the gift we give them for all their love and devotion. ❤

My gorgeous girl, Roxie is about to be 6 years old Nov 12th. She is my first Basenji and has been a total delight. She seems more human than dog at times. Knowing your furbaby lived to 17 is wonderful and amazing. It gives me hope that my girl will be long lived too. All my previous dogs, huskies, shepards, and terriers lived 13-15 years. No matter the age it hurts to lose them. They own a big chunk of our heart. I can't bear to be alone when they have gone, so I adopt another very soon. Each one has their own special place in our heart. They fill our lives with joy, comfort and occasionally aggravation. They are family.
My prayers are with you. God bless. -

So very sorry to hear of your loss. So hard to let any of them go but we have to love with open arms and be thankful that they chose to share their brief time with us. Prayers and thoughts to you and your family.
