Our local Humane Society collects dog food donations (even opened bags) for distribution to those who can't afford to feed their pets. I try and drop off a bag once in a while, but I forget. Thanks for the reminder!

I would be inclined to say this dog is part American Eskimo dog, part something brownish/brindle. He's really really cute

Ms. Vicki, you are the greatest! I've been thinking about this boy since you posted him. It's really cool you're giving your time and experience to rehome him properly. With your patience and the assistance of your wagging-tailed brood, you should have him turned around in no time!:) Hey, tomorrow's Thursday…any word on this boy?

The thing with multi-generational mutts is that they tend toward the dog "default" which is the same look that you see in many street dogs and pariah dog, medium size, prick ears, and often tan coloring. Since basenjis are a primitive dog they share these characteristics.

@AC~Akeyla: Well, we recieved an email from the coordinator of the B we want to adopt. She is ready to set up a home visit… I figure that's better than not hearing back from them. Huh? Also, what are they looking at when they come for a home visit? I'm happy to hear the good news. You have a good coordinator. My application and request to adopt fell through the cracks, so I'm happy to hear people in your area are efficient and on the ball. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Congratulations cubbies. Hope Archie and your Kate Nefertiti have a long and happy life with you. Please pop into member intro. thread and tell us about your "kids" and how they found you and your forever home. Welcome from Dawn and her "kids", Tyler and Katie.

@vickilb: Wow, Vicki, I guess I like to pretend that stuff doesn't really happen.:confused: I wish she was found already and sleeping under the covers with her human…:o:o:o I will send good wishes her way. Still can't believe she got loose.... Sometimes the forum is like watching the news. We all here love our animals and the news is not always good and can be depressing especially when we can't do anything.:(

Good news. I'm going to post about a very sad rescue story. I don't know how you do it without your heart beaking sometimes.

Thanks so much Sharon. I hope BRAT can help Frankie; I have this sinking feeling that someone would see how cute he is and adopt him without knowing anything about Basenjis - and there he'd be, in rescue or a shelter again! Terry

I emailed Bethann this morning and withdrew my interest in Benji because of transportation issues. She has two applicants that are Basenji savvy.

Tegs, Sorry that it took me a while to reply. I would love to trade pics with you. Everyday that passes, I am reminded of the Basenji Code. She is a bolter, I am happy that we have a storm door to help.

@AJs: I guess bird seed and fruit aren't Melody's cup of tea.:D But she keeps Gramma company when she's feeding her birds. That's helpful, isn't it? She sounds so darling. Kudos to you for your rescue efforts! I agree, there doesn't need to be any official structure or heirarchy to make a different for THAT dog! I've privately adopted out two dogs from bad situations. Got them neutered and found wonderful families for them who continue to adore them.

HOORAY!!! So glad to hear that you have Pearl back safe and sound! I second the thought though, change locks and get a restraining order - and don't leave little Pearl outside unsupervised… Terry
