@agitatedpsyche said: I bought him from a breeder called ''candyce'' I believe. Sadly one known here. Sigh.

Thank you Debra. Sayblee is a very good looking dog and I love the way adult Basenjis bodies fill out as adults. I like how the brown goes down her legs too giving the appearance of white socks. I will definitely keep your words in mind should I see any signs of aggression forming as he matures. I can only pray I luck out and he continues to get along well.

Ava and I send (very) belated happy birthday wishes to The Talented Mr. Oakley! He's as handsome as ever– but five years already? My, my, time does fly. The forum has been so quiet. I got out of the habit of checking it, because it seemed nobody ever posted. I miss those lively days, too, when somebody always had something to report or discuss. Glad to hear you and Oakley are doing well and prospering!

That's just how they like it– swaddled like babies and cuddled up against you. He's adorable-- congrats!

I am so sorry about your brother. Yes, seems he was meant to be with your family. If you get a chance, record his vocalizations. We really love pictures and videos!

You had me confused and then I realized you meant the write up on the other rescue (Okapi)… I like less white also. So I had to go look... wow, coloring reminds me of minpins. :) Cute dog though.

Katie is adorable! We just adopted a 5 month old tri color girl too, named Lucy. The expressions they can make with their color coded little faces are so precious! :)

I don't think being upside down makes it easier, quite the reverse. Sunny liked to howl. He would tune up on his own or with prompting. My current boy will howl if I encourage it, and occasionally when triggered by something….....e.g. the telephone ringing, if I am not immediately available to answer it. Certainly some dogs are more vocal than others.

@kjdonkers: How civilized! I can't imagine getting Lela or Binti to do that. You would be surprised! I taught him "pick it up" with clicker training. It's a very useful generic command. You add the names of things as you go. Getting him to bring the item to me was a natural progression, starting with insisting he give it to me to "earn" his reward. Increasing distance gradually leads to a very good retrieve! Perry works best just before his supper time. He knows when he gets it right, dinner will be served. Motivation! :)

Oh the pain of your question and my answer. Sobbing. I have 2 basenji… neither of them yodel. Arwen doesn't even do the basenji BOOF (though she does make demonic noises when annoyed). Cara is great at boof boof noise, and she DOES the yawning noises. But there is a scumball in FL breeding basenjis with probably corgis.. at any rate, producing "low riders"... bodies like basenjis but dwarfed legs. They yodel their freaking heads off. Sniff sniff. They boof. And I know a lot of other mixes that indeed do not dog bark, but make all the basenji noises.

I think I see some of the basenji ears, especially in the second picture. I just want to grab them and rub them good! :) It's most likely that there is at least a black lab there too. Also it may be not the first "mix". If it is a generation over there may be more then one mix in there. But either way, Lilly is adorable! :):) It's awesome that she has a good forever home now.
