Cara likes to be in control and lay on of my legs, but she hates when I hold her. I have to admit my daughter's new Samoyed is helping because he said I can hold him all day and he's fine with that. Cara says good, let her torture you. So it works out.

Another possibility might be Rat Terrier. They do come in brindle, although that colour is out of favour. There is one in my neighbourhood that has a bit of a Basenji look to him, and his tail is very short.......not sure if it's natural or docked.

I'm laughing pretty hard. I think her chihuahua had a different mate than she admits. He's adorable!

@xjole said in Does my Stella have some Basenji in her?: She has the wrinkled brow, upright erect ears, white markings on feet, chest, and tip of curled tail. Her preferred way of communicating is a song-like low howl, although she can bark. She hates getting wet and her prey drive is HIIIGH. She is very reserved and cautious, although that might be due to her stray status before I adopted her. Others have commented that she looks like she has some Corgi or Shiba Inu in her, and while I do see it, I see more of the Basenji temperament in her. I've asked her vet about the DNA testing, but I've been told that it is very unreliable, so I thought I'd ask other Basenji owners what they thought! The Wisdom Panel DNA tests have been getting better every year, so it's not as much of a gamble as it used to be. That said, the test does best with a purebred, then with a two-breed dog (like a "labradoodle" or whatever), and worst with a total mutt. If your girl is indeed a mix of two purebred dogs, it might be worth a shot. Check your pet store or Amazon for the test; the one that vets give is the most expensive anyway and is only worth it if you want to know about hereditary health issues, too.

@Dagodingo said in My pack in upstate NY.: @DebraDownSouth Another thing which seems to be a common trait is the basenji back leg stretch off the couch, I am guessing you have seen this one before too? [image: 1466604677229-image.jpeg] Oh yes, my boy used to do that all the time! Definitely a Basenji favourite. I also have lots of "under the blanket" pix of mine too. I have a throw on one of my couches, and if Perry considered it to be chilly, I would often have no sign of a dog when I returned home, other than that strange hump in the middle of the couch, completely covered up. After a time he would realize I was back and emerge from his cocoon.
  • My pack, guess which one thinks shes a basenji, she rules them too!

Ask the breeder how big the sire and dam are. That's a good idea. My first basenji, who was a champion, weighed nearly 26 pounds when she matured. My 2nd one would have been about that, but thanks to steroids, we did good to keep her at 30. My current rescue is a giant. We won't go there. I first dreamed of a SMALL dog, maybe 15 pounds tops after years of being a BIG DOG person (rottweilers and chows). I don't see that ever happening.

Okay Alex, I'm not quite doubting the "helping part"... but I am fairly sure some "sunning" and "waiting to sample" is also part of the plan!
