Is Rocko a Basenji Mix?

    Hi everyone!

    Yesterday I got the honor of adopting this little beautiful boy from a local animal shelter. They really weren't sure what he was exactly breed-wise but people kept throwing breeds at me that they guessed he was and I was looking them up online. One of the ones that really struck me as similar to him (especially because of the wrinkles on his forehead and his extremely quiet nature) was the Basenji. So I decided to look up a Basenji forum because you guys are obviously the experts on the breed ;D

    What do you guys think? Is Rocko part Basenji?

    I don’t think you are, dang it and I want ALL the dogs to be Basenji! Still… great looking pup. Get a DNA test. If that pup has ANY Basenji in it, I’ll send you a beer. 👊😁👍

    @pawla All three of mine loved tissues, especially as puppy’s, used or fresh lol. My latest dog, Bandit, used to grab the end of the toilet roll and unravel about 30 feet of it around the house.

    @Buddys: Actually, my first B was found running around and was not altered. Always a possibility since the canine need of procreation is pretty darn high up there with food, water, and air…... Oh I'm sure it does happen and will continue to happen but I just don't see it happening as much as rescues claim it happens. I know for a fact some shelters (the one I worked at did!) will label dogs as rarer breeds to get them adopted faster. We had two scruffy "doodle" mix mutts and the animal warden INSISTED they were Wired haired pointing griffons. LOL.

    Wow! That is certainly a fascinating mix! ;-) Two sighthounds and a Spitz in there, so will probably see much the same sorts of behaviour as Bs….I bet she's quite a runner too! Good look with your girl!

    The traits you described are also found in most of the Nordic/spitz type dogs. I don't see anything overly basenji-ish about him in the pics. What ever he is, he's very hansome.

    Oh yeah, he looks way more like a b-mix to me than a lot of the pups listed as basenjis on Petfinder. And they mention he's not a barker. What a cutie! Someone go get this guy! :D
