Hi Matt, welcome! Yeah, all basenjis are unique, and they are all alike! It's fun to read other people's stories and think, OMG my dogs does that exact same thing!

Hello again after a very long absence!! My 'chewing' boy now leaves his coat alone - his Mum (now spayed) wears his old hand-me-down coat, and he has his onw snazzy camoflage polar fleece jumper that I made. Can't possibly have it off thankyou!! His half-brother Jerry had his first coat on today - also a 'chewer' - we'll see if it is still on in the morning. Jerry's sister Chloe also got one on today after I managed to keep her still enough to pull it over her head!! Jerry is NOT allowed to touch it thank you!! @kiwir: The thing that annoys me is that he always wore a coat as a puppy - he's just turned 12 months now. But boys being boys, in the last few weeks he thought Mum had come back in season (she hadn't!) so in frustration he gradually chewed her coat - from the back forward - left the polar fleece around her shoulders and chest and neck. And the silly girl just let him - looking at him indulgently - "My boy" I tried making them without the polar neck (designed to stop chewing of the front) - or reinforced them with thick cotton tape - and that lasted a little longer. Now he just looks at me with those eyes saying "Hell, I'm freezing Mum!"

Just a little update. We brought Q home Tuesday night around 7PM after a very long trip (the poor little guy) of flying from Finland into Newark and a 2 hour ride from the airport to Chris's home. Luckily the ride from there to our home was 20 minutes or less as I am sure he was tired of travelling. I could not ask for anything more from him, he is everything I hoped he'd be. Great mannerisms, affectionate, great with our 3 year old. He met the cat and she was the nasty one (he stays away from her and ignores her). My wife works from home and she called me yesterday to say she was cleaning our sons rabbit's cage and forgot to close his door while she was doing it and guess who walked in to see what was happening? She told him to sit, you cannot have the rabbit and he actually obeyed instantly. I would have expected a pile of fur to be left behind LOL. The only negative at the moment is we had to switch his food as it is not available around here (we are trying Blue Wilderness Duck atm) and when I heard folks state B's can be a stink butt….well....hopefully we find something that upsets his tummy less SOON.

Welcom to the forum and congratulations,, your b sounds wonderful and no, you are not the only one that feels guilty for leaving them. Think about it.. you got a basenji… you are already kind of crazy!! :-) Ayo is 2 1/2 years old now, and I still hate leaving him. I have only slept away from him one night in the whole 2/ 1/2 years. I know I will have to leave him more often in the future , luckily I already have a perfect place to leave him which worked perfectly that one time. Its a friend who loves dogs, she breeds yorkies and shows many breeds, Ayo loved it at her place. he stayed perfectly calm in his crate, no anxiety whatsoever. I was so relieved. Its good to find a person like that so that hey get used to them, and that way you know that they will be happy when you have to leave them...not everyone can handle a basenji, its hard to find people who can properly "babysit" while you are away. .....

Hey, I forgot about this forum for a while… Yes, that was probably mine, my parents live in Bedford and my dad would take her to the baseball fields when I lived with them for a bit back in '08. I actually left her there at xmas so I could focus on finishing up my thesis work - and my dad is driving to Toronto (where I go to school) from NS tomorrow to bring her back. I havent seen her in 3 months, so I am looking forward to the reaction. Of course my dad will be devastated to leave her , he adores her. I keep trying to get him to get his own but he says he only loves Shera, haha. There were a couple other basenjis at that field, I think there is a breeder in sackville who would bring hers every so often. Now that I think of it, my dad may have mentioned meeting another B recently, maybe it was yours. Anyways, take care. I am going to enjoy my last night of freedom before shera comes home and takes over everything.

Giza swam in the Atlantic once when we were out walkin' at low tide and the tile came in. The Atlantic in Canada is pretty cold!
