  • Hi,

I've not been on here for a while, obviously with what happened with my pugs i have not been feeling too sociable! And we now have all of our dogs on medication for poisoning as they have all been sick so things have been rather stressful. I thought i'd do a little Maya update though.

This was last weekend at her show. She went really well, but she wasn't 100%, she did enjoy her breakfast though:

Sadly, a couple of days later I had to rush her to the vets, and she was admitted and put on a drip, she was a very sick girl. It turns out she had injested some of the poison that killed the others so she is now on an interesting variety of poison meds.

This was her first night back home, you can see her shaved neck and leg :(

She picked up REALLY quickly though, and was soon well enough to have a talk to Sidney:

And on Thursday, after all this stress and thinking we would not be able to get there, Maya made it to her big competition in London! She was the youngest there by about 4 months (many of the dogs were 2 years old or more so as a 10 month old pup maya did well to get there at all!!!) and obviously after the ordeal she had we were just hoping she would enjoy the day and just cope with the big occassion well… She loved it though - she certainly goes her best in the big ring :D

Here she is with one of the 3 judges examining her:

After all 28 Finalists were scored by the three judges on Conformation, type and Movement, the 5 dogs scoring the highest were brought back in the ring and placed accordingly.. And can you believe, little Maya was one of the five??

And check out how we did!! :D

I was a little bit happy with that :p

    :)

  • What a beautiful tri girl! Isn't it amazing how fast they can bounce back? It's amazing what a Mom's love can do!!!:)

  • Glad your b is on the mend. Sorry for the other losses you suffered.

  • What a great win happy for you both Way to Go. I am sorry about your loss but I am so happy Maya is well and she is pretty.

  • Yes I can believe you were called back! You are well overdue for a bit of good things. Nice to see you're back; we've missed you and pretty little Maya.

  • Miss Maya has grown up very nicely… she looks lovely... congrats on your sucess and the fact that she could and did put a big smile on your face!

  • Great to see you back Jess :)
Congratulations to you and Maya on your fantastic win, you look over the moon on the pics, as well you might.
So sorry to hear about the terrible things going on, i hope you will be able to do something about it.

  • Jess, what is Sidney ?

  • Thanks for the replies everyone. Maya certaionly put a smile on my face on Thursday, it was completely unexpected! The steward even had to come out looking for me to call me back in as we were one of the last to go so i didnt see my scores and just assumed we wouldnt be going through so i'd put Maya in her crate to sleep and had sat back down outside the ring to watch…!! :D

Sidney is an African Pygmy Hedgehog :)

I am glad that Maya is doing better and that she did smashing at the show..

  • Thanks Jess, Sydney is so cute. At first i thought he was a Koosh ball :D
    Where did you get him?

  • Haha! I did too! I love pygmy hedgehogs…

I'm happy your girl is better and did so well in the ring.

  • Poor Sidney!

I bought him from a breeder in North Yorkshire :)

  • I'm sorry for what has happened Jess. It's wonderful that Maya has come back and looked great at the show.

  • Well done Jess and Maya, a great result. I did ask
Others regarding your terrible ordeal as I have not seen you since and I was truly shocked when I heard the details.

Hope to see you soon, BCOGB Open or LKA?

    Steve.

  • Congratulations, Maya is a lovely girl. I am so sorry about your losses, I did not know what happened to them, but assumed it was tragic. So very gald Maya recovered.

I've already replaced one set of bedsheets due to the digging. I swear he does it as soon as I leave the room, I'll hear him start digging, then he gets demoted to the couch (I guess this isn't really punishment…).

Oakley is 15 months and I use a martingale collar but no matter howuch training he still seems to "cart pull" as I call it, his head goes down and he digs in to pull, I'm looking into getting a hurtta harness but don't know which is better for pulling- the Y harness or the regular one I see Chaffie wearing

Thanks everyone! We couldn't be happier, he is everything we could have asked for! Still training for the therapy route, but we certainly won't force it on him if he isn't enjoying it. He wants a sister…I mean WE want him to have a sister :)... but we're probably going to hold off another couple years before doing so! Especially since we may possibly be moving in the next year or so.

@moetmum: A basenji with a KC Gold GC! That just doesn't seem right! You should be really proud of her, that is a real achievement. Don't forget to let us know when she gets it. Hey she hasn't got it yet , Gerry ;) I hope she does, there is such a lot to it. We struggle a bit with heeling off lead.

she went from being a fussy puppy to being a puppy that just wants and loves food. if you have food she will do any trick you ask her with 110% enthusiasam if it means shes gettin food lol but i am glad shes not a fussy girl! We are waiting to hear back from the breeder to see what pups are reserved and which arent. Very excited. Hope gets to play with a chinese crested at work and she also plays with another two iggies down at the small breed social i run every fortnight, she seems to know that she has to be careful with the smaller dogs :) shes not much into wrestling with others, more or less just wants to run run run! i will have to upload a video of her and yoshi (the chinese crested) playing at work (the most ive seen her play! as usually its just tag, now chase me!) and will post the link here. So funny and cute. will post iggie baby photos once a decision's made :) EDIT: Video link to them playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDTjuz_tNpM
