Where does your B sleep?

Basenji Talk
  • I have a son and my dogs sleep with me and my child sleeps in his room. I don't get the connection to having children and your dog sleeping with you. Sometimes, on the weekends, its both dogs, one cat and the two of us. I bought a king size bed so we all fit. :D

  • Yeap I have a 12 year old and when my husband goes to work, it's our B, my daughter me. Precious moments.

  • @LaurieB:

Let me guess….......you don't have children. We don't let our dogs in our bed either. A bed is for a husband and wife......not dogs!!

Yikes! A bed is for husband and wife? What if you are single? Do you have to sleep on the floor?

We have dogs in the bed, and a three year old (not in the bed…he has his own bed). So I guess we managed to do the husband-wife thing....

  • :o Huh? :o LOL!!

LOL, I'm not sure what the husband/wife thing is all about either:confused: . All THREE of us sleep in the bed together but I guess I concider all of us to be part of the same family. To each his own, I suppose.

  • Yikes….....get over it

    Get over what???

Seems to me, you need to get over people doing what they want in and with their own bed….

I think this thread has veered of of the topic of Basenjis, so this will be my last post...feel free to have the last word.

  • Last night was especially comfy…A little chilly, I had the bedroom window cracked, quilt on top, two "B's"..... one behind my knees, one curled up by my stomach. Doesn't get any better!!!!:)

  • It is especially nice when it's a little chilly to have a B curled up next to you.

    Well said Andrea!

  • Bed sleeping is definitely a personal choice. Mine sleep with me for a little bit then they go to the couch or crate.

  • We have four B's and a mutt terrier sleeping with us and my Son get's the other two B's. I guess it's a personal choice as to what does or doesn't crawl in your bed with you. I love my B's and my wife…....and I sleep with all of them.:D :D :D

Willy generally prefers five star accomadations but has to suffer along with the rest of us.

    It's especially nice anytime!! ;)

  • Squiggy spent, in his first home, his nights (and my guess days) locked in an outside basement on the step closest to the top. No blanket and ended up with calluses on his legs from the steps.
Now, in his FOREVER home, he sleeps anywhere he darn well pleases :)
Which is in the middle of my bed, on top of the covers. He only likes to be covered in the mornings when I am getting ready and only with his blanket.

    Spoiled BRAT :p

  • I like that story! :) good going!

  • We use to have a Queen size bed, one husband, two basenjis and a cat. We upgraded to a King Size bed and we still don't have room in our bed!

  • Lulu sleeps with me in my bed and takes whole bed, and sometimes snores…

  • Been a while since anyone wrote here, but I have to chime in. My B and my Rat terrier and my hubby, and me of course all share a queen size bed. My hubby leaves early morning and I have two loving dogs to keep me warm. And as someone said a while back, I don't have children yet, atleast not human children!

  • Both of mine must sleep between myself and my partner. They prefer being squished between the both of us. The more squished they are, the better (within reason of course). They are not allowed under the covers or on the sofa in our office. The are spoiled and pretty much permitted anywhere else. The squish factor is even more evident when it's naptime on the 'allowed' couch in which they like to be between the sofa back and my back. They fight for the spot sometimes.

  • My crazy Luke sleep with me since we brought her home…Yeah, she has her create and bed, but she loves mine bed the most...So we sleep together, and cheeses, sometimes she snore like an old drunk guy!!!!!!

Definitely looks like a basenji to me. If it was something like a lab, they would be in the pool hogging the space.

@Forever: I have been looking at him too lol my area my color and he seems sweet and he likes cats too though I can't say my cat will like him. I need to jump in and get my bratt visit done then see what happens. My problem is no fence yet. I know that is a mark against me. It is what keeps me from calling for the visit. We had plans but life happened and no fence again. Zoe seems happy with her daily walks and house play. She doesn't seem to mind being tied outside because we keep her company. I guess when the right time and b happen all will work itself out. But one thing about bratt is my worry about fanconi not sure they are tested. I worry about zoe I dont want that worry with another dog I agree with you… you already know about Zoe... and to adopt another that could be Affected... well, I certainly understand ... and FYI, they are not for the most part DNA tested... it is not something that BRAT requires... I would suppose that if you were interested in a certain dog that you could make that a condition of adoption, that he/she be tested first.... but I have no idea how BRAT would react to that...

Sahara has pawed my hand if wanting attention, pawed at my face, but smack, never. My cat has smacked me before, is the smack like a cat's? Describe it in more detail please.

@Lenora: He sounds pretty typical basenji to me Cheryl. They want to be where you, and make themselves completely comfortable on you. Abbey used to be a terrible mouther when she was little (she's 3 now) and I taught her No Bite. Kiss. When she'd start to mouth at my hand or whatever, I'd say No Bite, Kiss, and she would give me a little lick instead. I too use the No Bite, Kisses and he is getting there. If he gets too rough, I just pull away and ignore him, it doesn't take long before he will reach over and give a gentle kiss. I am having so much fun with him. He is the most loving dog I have ever owned and we are learning lots from each other. Yesterday he "saved" me from the UPS truck! He saw it pull up outside on the curb and he set off with a series of barks that hit a pitch that hurt! Of course once he saw the man get out, he was all wiggles and wanting to play with him. :)
