Hello from Hana's new family!

  • Thrilled to say that we just picked up our 12 week old female basenji pup yesterday - the 36 hour drive that my husband accomplished was worth it! ;) She was a trooper on the super long journey and we're having so much fun getting to know her. She is very sweet and inquisitive - and a snuggler. We've been researching basenji's for about 2 years+ now and had previously little luck in finding an available puppy, all were either pre-reserved, or the breeders weren't sure if they were keeping them for themselves etc, false pregnancy - you name it. But finally the stars aligned and fate pulled through. One of the breeders we got to know here in AZ recommended the breeder in TX because her father was the sire of the pups, although I don't think she mentioned it at the time … can't remember. Anyway fell in LOVE with the little caramel stripey babies and watched them grow since 12 hours old. So grateful for all the help and for our new family member.

Looking forward to being a part of this invaluable and friendly community! thank you so much!

  • Welcome! Love the action shot!:)

  • Welcome onboard…she is adorable.

  • She is a cutie and has absolutely beautiful markings!

  • Welcome, who did you get her from? Many of us are related by our Basenjis

  • I'm happy for you to be experiencing how great it is to finally have a basenji! Hana looks so pretty!

  • She is darling, welcome to the Basenji extended family.

  • Where are you at in AZ? There are several more of us in AZ on here who just got pups that need new puppy basenji friends.

  • @tanza:

Pat, this was under the pic of her little girl:
    Fly'N Hi's Hana, female born Dec. 14, 2010
    Dam - Fly'N Hi N Kazor's Maasai Mara
Sire - Avongara Ding of Brushy Run
So, I'm guessing she's from Cindy Griswald. Am I right??? Either way, Hana is an adorable little girl and if she's out of Cindy's stuff, she's got some great potential to be an awesome little performance dog. And that, of course, makes my heart go pitty-pat. Welcome Hana and her family.

  • @Kirsten:

    Welcome! Love the action shot!:)

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words! I hope I'm replying correctly ;)

Tanza and Agilebasenji – yes indeed! She is one of Cindy's! :D Absolutely that whole realm of agility and lure coursing is fascinating. wish we were closer as we know nothing about it.... to me, if I were a basenji, THAT's what I'd want to do all day !! Too fun for words. :)
Sire is Bev's from Arizona, he's 100% african line.

etzbseder - I see you're in Tucson? :) We're in north central Phoenix. After the drive and back to texas, Tucson doesn't seem far away anymore.... hehehe do you know if all the AZ new pups are in your area or all over AZ? Would be fun that's for sure to get them all together! :)

Kirsten - thank you so much! Those photos are cindy's! ;) Thankfully now she's here we can take all kinds of new photos! YAY!

  • What a great looking little girl!

    Welcome to the forum!

  • I imagine that Bev has already told you about this group, but just in case, there is a Basenji group in Phoenix: Basenji Fanciers of Greater Phoenix.

We spend the winters in Arizona; unfortunately, too far away from either Phoenix or Tucson to make regular trips over for the get togethers (especially considering that diesel is now nearing $4.00 per gallon and will probably be well over $5.00 by next winter :( ).

  • What an utterly cute puppy! Congrats!

  • LindaH - oh I know…. gas is increasing like crazy!! We'll definitely check them out! Thank you so much! Looks like a lot of fun and a great resource too .... :)

  • Glad your here with us.

Sharron, are you from Poulsbo then looks like? My husband grew up in Poulsbo! Lemolo Point. Very small world!!!! :) I lived in Poulsbo too for a couple of years, very pretty town…. miss it.

  • Welcome to the forum! And congrats on your lovely looking puppy :)

  • Hana, I work in Poulsbo, and live in Silverdale. My folks had a small house on Liberty Bay. I cried when we had to sell it.
    Its a great town!

  • Welcome to the forum from the UK. What a cute puppy, I look forward to seeing more pictures.

Welcome to the forum! Please forgive the delay in welcomes, the forum has been hiccuping and not showing new posts for a while. Hopefully the new format will fix that!

Before you get a puppy… go to the Basenji Club of Canada and Basenji Club of America websites and read up on Fanconi and other heritable diseases. ANY breeder not testing for these disease is NOT someone you should spend your time or money on one of their puppies. Too bad you didn't look 4-5 months ago... there was a lovely litter of Khani's pups up in Drumheller! Best of luck to you!

Welcome to you and Snicker. I'm pleased that you said 'accident' - it's definitely not Snicker's fault. If you follow the advice gicven by previous posters you'll very soon have the perfect housetrained Basenji. They are generally very clean little creatures and in my opinion are the easiest dog to housetrain.

You have done a great thing for that dog. Bless people like you who will adopted and rescue these wonderful dogs (and I mean any breed). My basenji mix came from a shelter also. She has been a handful, but a very much loved hanful. I wish you well in caring for your new furbaby. Oh, and I have friends who give a benadryl to their standard poodle everyday. Sounds like you have started down the right path for this dog and it's future sounds brighter.
