I bet it's lovely to see him and Zoey together. Like you we have Cats. The other evening Malaika was racing around the room whilst our large Tabby, Jerry lay over hanging the settee. He hates when she rushes around and began to stalk her whilst still up on the settee, he crouched down at either side, where ever he thought she'd appear next, also doing lots of spitting. She suddenly saw him and screamed, she obviously read the murderous intent in his eyes.

I would defintely recommend martingale collars, specifically the Lupine brand ones..they are fairly inexpensive and have a 100% guarantee, meaning if your dogs eats/chews or in any way breaks it they will replace, no questions asked..we have used that policy once, when Otis decided to eat his…..
As far as food..I have used Blue Buffalo, and like it lots, especially since it is easier to find. I also like EVO, Canidae and The Honest Kitchen..My dogs are on RAW so we use the Honest Kitchen or Sojos for mix ins, even when they were puppies.

I have also washed them in the dishwasher. Works great. I just slide it on a spindle.

Jess - why don't you put a proposal to each of the individual clubs that they take a Discover Dogs stand. There are new people in the breed now who may be more interested.

Also I do know that some of the breeds at DD this year had asked for double stands precisely to give space so that dogs could be rested without being crowded in.

It wasn't a case of tired dogs biting but as you know Basenjis object to having strangers pushing into their faces. There are plenty of other breeds who would also object to this. After all I'm sure that nobody would put a dog of bad temperament on the stand. That wouldn't do the breed any good!!

I remember one Crufts when one of the basenjis went for the judge and headlines were 'Biting Basenji'!! You can imagine the uproar and the disservice it did to the breed!

I'm not sure who would ascertain that the information would be accurate though. I do know that some of the info on the club websites is incorrect!!!

I bought one for Blaze last year as he would walk up to the bed then whine, then make a feeble attempt to get up and we had to help him. He refused to use them! Every once in a while he still does the feeble whine thing, but usually he just takes a running jump. He's still pretty agile for 16.

When I was with BEAR rescue in OH, I rescued a young B/Sheltie female Mix from a Columbus shelter. We went lure coursing in PA and stayed at a motel that had waterbeds. This girl was under the covers along with the Bs and in the middle of the night I woke up to hear panting. This crazy girl did not know any better than to get out from under the covers to get cooler. I had to physically pull her out, get her some water, and put her on top of the covers to cool her off! Even though she had a narrow snout like a Sheltie, a slightly heavier coat than a B, and a looser tail, she had a running style like a B and loved to chase the lure. There was a picture taken of her lure coursing. She also like to retrieve balls which none of the Bs would do. She was a sweetie and was eventually adopted.

OOOOhhh i hope Malaika doesn't start catching little creatures, have enough problems with the cats, they only catch mice as they are not quick enough to get birds.
Pepper must be fast i've never heard of Dogs getting birds before.
I have noticed Malaika doing stalking cat like behaviour when i'm playing with her.

Unfortunately, the legislature took the medical exemption clause out of the original bill filed by Del. Guthrie. The state's Public Health Veterinarian, Dr. Gary Kinder (304) 558-2214 Ext. 4640 Cell Phone: (304) 546-9560 or gkinder@ag.state.wv.us , e-mailed me that he and the Department of Agriculture would not oppose a bill changing the law to 3 years, but that they would oppose the inclusion of a medical exemption clause. The exemption clause filed in the original bill was removed.

Rabies vaccines labeled instructions state that they are for healthy dogs and cats. There must be pets in West Virginia battling systemic cancers, hemolytic anemia, and other diseases for which rabies boosters could pose a life-threatening risk – Dr. Kinder should explain his position to West Virginia pet owners whose animals are or may be impacted by this amendment to the original bill.

What great news - she is obviously settling well. Although Basenjis have often been house trained before leaving the breeder they do sometimes regress in a new home and I'm sure you'll find Malaika very clean.

I agree, it can happen with any pet. Moe (not a basenji) will roll in anything, the nastier the better (or so he thinks). He has come inside with some crazy gooey stuff stuck on his coat, and he hates being bathed more than Cody. We've had cats splash through paint while we were painting boats, wood stain, and all kinds of stuff.

For the oil incident though, the baking soda helped a lot. I caked it on the oily areas and rubbed it in good, then I took the wash cloth and lathered it with Dawn and scrubbed the areas lightly. It took a while, but I really didn't want to risk him grooming himself and ingesting any oil.

LOL Basenjimama! I can sympathize. When I first adopted Cody (er… became his slave) and gave him his first bath, I think every inch of my bathroom was cover in either soap or water, and that happened every time I gave him a bath to a lesser degree. While sometimes the shower is a little awkward, it is easier than trying to keep him in the bathtub.
