Great news about Lola's Fanconi test, and her new home. I love happy endings. Now if I only had room for Buddy…:)

I leave Luny in the kitchen mainly because that has flooring that won't be harmed when he spills the water bucket (I got one of those flat-sided ones that hangs with not a lot of water but he still makes a mess with it). When I leave in the morning it's dark out anyway. Lately he seems "resigned" to having to be in the kennel when I leave for work - he no longer howls and doesn't pee in it and doesn't tear up the rugs much any more (I can tell he doesn't really like it though). He doesn't hate the crate because he'll go in there readily to be fed and look for treats so that's good (EL D never would go near a crate and he would actually destroy one if forced). Luny's still a little anxious when I "disappear" even for short times so I'm not sure I can trust him loose in the house yet but I'll work on that. I leave him a kong with some peanut butter smeared kibbles - he hasn't yet learned (as EL D did early on) to toss the thing around so trying to lick out the insides keeps him occupied for awhile. We're progressing I think.

Basenjis. <sigh>How can there be so many precious pups out there without homes?</sigh> That is no fair!!! I wasn't going to look at petfinder anymore. She is darling. Hmmmm….how far is IA from GA....thinking...thinking...thinking.

@BasenjiByTheBay: That's just wonderful, Vicki. Lucky Bailey and lucky you! Thank you for being devoted to rescue. Can't help you with the addiction - I surf for basenjis every few days even though there's no way we have room for more than our two. I was surfing petfinder.com today! Bad. Bad. Bad. I promised I would stop.

@Janneke: I thought exactly the same.. But.. I think I mentioned this before in another thread: Our former queen had a basenji :D [image: KoninginJulianametBasenji-1.jpg] And there she is! Z'hara was she called i believe? If I have to explain wich breed I own, I say often, like our queen did years ago.. But only the older people respont to that as "oooowww yes I know, a little not barking dog!" A mix would be good for the white house, but no pure bred… just because there are so many people who buy a dog just for having the same as him... :( And a basenji? thats not a dog for everyone....

@bellabasenji: Does anyone know of a good Siberian Husky rescue near West Virginia? Have you look at the Parent Club Website? Usually all the breeds have links to rescue

He sounds like a very sociable youngster who would like having a basenji pal. I can't imagine having just 1, most really seem happier having a buddy. And while it may not be all roses for the first few weeks, after 3 or 4 months they will probably be inseparable. Good luck! Anne in Tampa

That's what I was guessing, Jannie, but I didn't remember your name, just Gracie and Roxie's. Must be all those years of being known as "Gena's (or one of the other kids') Mom" and knowing other mothers the same way. :p I'll let you know as soon as I talk to Laura today what's up. Thanks again, Alex. I know we've had issued with bots and trolls, so I understand not recommending posting email addresses.

@lvoss: Do the yodelers that you have yodel on a regular basis, Andrea? My male, Nicky, does not yodel but has joined in at the National. In fact, at the 1999 Nationals he sat down on the examine table and threw his head back to wail with everyone. It was good that we had a basenji breeder judge that year, she just laughed and called him a silly boy. My girls will sing all the time. Rally is a natural yodeler and Sam has always encouraged her to sing frequently. Her daughters both join in and when we get home from work are greeted by our lovely female chorus. No matter how often Nicky hears them though, he never seems compelled to join in. Blondie is the only one who yodels regularly…and she will do it on request if the setting is right. Bella yodels only when she feels it...usually in the morning when she is about to be let out of her crate, or if she is trying to entice another dog to play with her. Her son, Hippo has only yodeled a few times, and almost always at another dog. I think we could probably train him to do it on request, though... Querk and his daughter, Luna have never yodeled...but can shriek with the best of them. And Ivy yodeled maybe twice in her life, when she was very young, and we had come home from a vacation without her. It was a very gravelly, grodelly sound. Pretty much, I can say that my Select dogs don't yodel, and my Taji dogs do ;)
