People need to only read about rescue dogs and how they got to where they are to understand why we are so outspoken about breeding (or as the case may be, not breeding) Believe me it is not and easy decision when you are trying to do it right… it is costly and a labor of love... pure and simple... I bred my first litter only to find 2 days before the pups were born that my bitch's dam had Fanconi... can you image what I felt? Can you understand why we are so against anyone that bred this year without testing? I went forward with a different approach only to get temperaments that I didn't like... I made the hard choice and did not take that line forward other then to collect the males for possible use in the future if I then had a line with excellent temperaments that also prove to "throw" those temperaments... and it was not that they were nasty, but just a bit to strong for my taste...
Understand that every breeder if you are a responsible breeder makes very, very hard choices... and the choice to NOT breed it the worst... and the most difficult... which is why we ask? What does your Basenji have to offer the breed?
A dog would not necessarily be a bad idea in a normal museum setting but if you look at the pictures of that museum everything was displayed in such a way that it would be a huge temptation for an animal. In fact, it would be a huge temptation for a small child that was under adult supervision.
I have a freind who really hates dogs barking, and went out and got one. She has severe OCD on top of it all. She is completely obsessive about the dogs behaviors and complains about it EVERYDAY.
One minute she loves on the dog and the next she talks about how she can't wait to give it away. She also complains about why she even got a dog. I don't know why and I can't take it anymore, just be done with it. It has become an obsession with her. Not a Good one but a bad one.
By the way when she complains about the dog, it's usually her fault because she won't listen to anyone (myself included) when it comes to dogs she knows nothing. But she is stubborn! Again, I can't take it anymore…....I feel better!

Those pics are great. They all look so humiliated! I love the bunny one though. That dog reminds me of the kid from "A Christmas Story". They both look like they have about the same feeling about their bunny outfit!
We've had people ask us if Cory was a Shiba Inu or a Fox Terrier. Most think she is a Fox Terrier. A couple weeks after we got her, we took her on vacation with us. At one spot, someone asked about her and before we knew it, we had attracted a little crowd. It was really strange and a little worrisome because we hadn't had her long enough to know how she was going to react to so much attention from strangers. It was definitely a new experience for us! Cory took it all in stride and looked like such attention was to be expected!!

It takes around 30 minutes in real time to clean it. I guess it flushes with real water and then has a dryer to dry the cat litter. Hahaha!
We have tried every self cleaning litter box on the market…but this one just looks to darn complicated.

If you do go back to hardwood. I would recommend staying with Oak. We had oak floors in our last house and have Hickory now and the Oak was much better at resisting denting. You can see a few places after 18 months where the claw marks made a dent in the surface. I never saw that in 5 years of Oak.
We have oak and it is standing up beautifully with three dogs {and Gypsy is fairly heavy} and all the kids {who are forever dragging their dining chairs across the floor despite dh's constant harping to 'lift, lift, lift" }
The only dent is from where dh dropped the stereo when he was putting the room back together immediately after installing the floor :D
I love it. It's tougher than we were told it would be and so easy to clean.
Fortunately bloat is more prevalent in the larger dogs,but can happen to any size. Friends with Great Danes were advised by their vet to use elevated feeders, saying that there is less gulping of air if the food is at the correct height. While I am not too worried about bloat, I got elevated feeders and my dogs like them. A small thing to do that helps with digestion.

You are doing a wonderful job! How about keeping some gum in the car, just for when driving. Chew, sing along, whatever it takes. $40 is a huge amount to save, treat yourself to a massage or facial with that money,girl!
