This is probably what may have happened. I don't think anyone actually saw the fight… So it's hard to tell, but my friend now thinks it is a part of male dominance fighting! I told them I would ask on here and see if it is common or not...

I give it to dogs who don't eat…or to hide pills in.

A dog, might like the belly rub, but take issue with being on its back.
We start with rescue dogs, slowly rubbing their tummys when they are standing up.
Going to the side or back is a major trust thing, that with rescue dogs take time.

I give mine the Mother Hubbard Charcoal treats also… they are black and don't look very appetizing, but I guess they are supposed to help with dental health.

Thank you for your advice. Any Idea what causes interdigital cysts? Are they fairly common, and if so… would there be a chance she would get cysts elsewhere?

I agree Pat-no pumpkin when they are having tummy troubles. Plain Yoghurt is also good.

Mind you, Bella was a surprise birthday gift from my husband. He wanted a boxer, but I wanted a smaller dog (he said he wasn't getting either). He went to a pet store:( and saw my girl… and fell in love with her!:eek: He arranged everything and proceeded to tell me we were going out and it was a surprise for my birthday. He blindfolded me🆒 and took me there and I didn't know where I was going until I walked into the store. I was asked to guess what my present was... then told to close my eyes while they got her. I didn't know until they put her in my arms who my sweetie girl was going to be.:D How could I resist this beautiful little Basenji baby bundle of joy! I never even imagined it would be a Barkless African dog. I don't approve of puppy mills or encourage them, "backyard breeders" either. But at that very moment these thoughts were further in the back of my mind:rolleyes: ...

There are a few who health test breeding stock - these I get from OFA. But often only one dog is tested / registered from a litter of 6. You can get an idea of the number in a litter from the last two digits on a registration. If, for example, the Mom's reg# ends in /05, and she apparently has no siblings. . . alarm bells might sound too. She does have at least 4 brothers and sisters - so why are they not listed ?

I do spend hours each week, checking for siblings on the AKC website once I get a registration, date of birth and Mom.

I have now switched from Blue Buffalo food to Merricks wet and dry. The Blue Buffalo was hard to get, I had to buy it out of town. I get Merricks locally, and Sahara absoutely eats it better than all the rest. She is a picky eater and doesn't have a big appetite, but man oh man is she waiting when it is meal time now. She cleans her dish, a new thing for her. I am very happy, I use the dry also with about 1/4 cup of wet mixed in. I add alittle warm water to the dry (it makes it's own gravy) heat the wet alittle and add to the dry. Yes, I know Sahara is spoiled b/c I heat her wet food but what the heck, she is worth it, only takes a few seconds. Merricks is pricey $2 per can but I make it last for about 4-5 meals. Anyways, if you read the can and bag of the dry you will see what I mean, it is very good dog food and the family that has the company has been in business for 3 decades.

I have been giving Sahara Blue Buffalo for months now and she loves it. She is picky about what she likes to eat, I use the dry in the blue bag, and mixed alittle wet with it. Read those labels on the cans, lots of veggies, and antioxidants for good health. I have tried many foods and she eats this the best. While I was reading the labels a lady and her husband bought one of those huge bags and I asked about the food. They told me they had lost one of their dogs to cancer and now with a new dog they only buy Blue Buffalo. If you try a new food the girl there told me to start out with only a small amount mixed into their regular food. You then over a few days mix more and more until you end up with only the new food. I do this and Sahara hardly has any bowel problems. She had never been a big eater, she weighs 22pds. and the vet told me today that her coat was beautiful and she weighs exactly what she should for a Basenji. I was happy she is healthy and sassy!!!!! Good Luck with finding a food you like.:D

I saw the thread for pizzles and wanted to let people know you can get them pretty cheap at Fleet Farm. Their prices are usually half of what PetSmart or PetCo, but you can't bring the pups into Fleet Farm.
