  • Drive around the area with a picture and ask everybody. Are there any parks near by? Is she friendly and socialized? Do you know if he left Pearl's collar on with tags? At least she has a chip. We're all putting our positive thoughts in the area for Pearl to be found safely.

  • Thanks for posting the photo.
I feel so sad for you, but don't give up!
Can you post her pix and information in the local paper?
You and Pearl are in my prayers.

    Please, keep us posted.

  • Don't give up on her, a siberian husky on another forum was lost for two weeks in London and he came home safe.

We are all praying for her safe return, and I wont say what vibes I am sending your husband

  • That, I think, would definitely be EX-husband to me! Good luck on her safe return.

  • I do so agree with EX-HUSBAND. Anything new on your girl yet? Do not give up….

    Rita Jean

  • Here's good wishes and prayers going your way - that she comes home to you safely.

  • What a wicked thing for him to do!
As people have suggested i would also advise hanging around the area he left her, with pictures and talking to people. You could also offer a reward for her safe return.
Good luck, please keep us posted

  • So sad to read this.

What about contacting a local tv station - it might be they could do a story on it which would get the word out and possibly get her back…who cares if your husband (since he left anyway) is embarrassed by it. I wonder if the SPCA could criminally charge him for it - at least make it so he could never have a pet again.

  • I have family around Houston and Huffman and I've sent them the picture of Pearl and have asked them to send the info to everyone they know in the area. I pointed out to them that anyone who would dump an animal would also lie about where they dumped it. So I asked them to tell everyone they know, anywhere around Houston.

    Hugs and prayers..
    Pat

Thanks again for all your help and good wishes.

    Monica

My dogs are secured in crates or the bedroom (Rotties were okay behind a gate, I'd never trust my basenjis with one) if the door is open. Every time, every single time, for my entire adult life. So yeah, dog bolts, the person failed to secure the dog. Unless some person enters if you don't know it, tree falls on house, burglar comes in, police raid your house by mistake etc… if YOU open a door, YOU are responsible, not the dog.

He sounds like a very sociable youngster who would like having a basenji pal. I can't imagine having just 1, most really seem happier having a buddy. And while it may not be all roses for the first few weeks, after 3 or 4 months they will probably be inseparable. Good luck! Anne in Tampa

That's what I was guessing, Jannie, but I didn't remember your name, just Gracie and Roxie's. Must be all those years of being known as "Gena's (or one of the other kids') Mom" and knowing other mothers the same way. :p I'll let you know as soon as I talk to Laura today what's up. Thanks again, Alex. I know we've had issued with bots and trolls, so I understand not recommending posting email addresses.

@knf106: He does have papers, from the ACA. I'm not sure who the sire and the dam are on the papers, because Oatie is not with me (I'm in NJ and he's in DC). Thanks, if you happen to talk to anyone that has access to the papers, would be good to know what they say. And it is good that Tonda, who works for an org. that works with these kinds of problem dogs is willing to take him. Hopefully one of the first things they do is a thyroid test and full medical workup…. and hopefully they can rehab him and be able to place him. I would guess it will be a long road, but good that he is going someplace that has worked with these kinds of behavior problems.

I know, Jennifer, but I was just saying "Yikes" because our name is also Reed. No need to apologize! Terry
